SHU fans

We are in THE BIG TEN CONFERENCE. The best academic and athletic conference in the country. they are in the bigeast

Read almost all of that thread and other than a handful of haters, most were happy with our success so far this season. I used to go to a bunch of SHU games and still root for them in every game but 1. Maybe it's ok for me because I'm not an alum of either school.

When Pete Carrill was coaching at Princeton, SHU wasn't even our biggest rival in the state

As I mentioned before, lots here view this thing with Seton Hall differently than I do...and that's OK, because I hated those Smurfs for a long long time.

But...After we left the Big East, basketball changed forever for me. What Penn State, Iowa and Minnesota do are far more important than what Seton Hall does to me as a member of the Big Ten.

Not trying to steal the fun away from those who still hold the grudge, but it just doesn't lather me up any longer.

Funny thing is I hated them most back when when we were in the Atlantic Ten and they were in the Big East. That gave them a huge recruiting edge all because they were there instead of us due to fred Gruningers ineptness. Seriously fred should be Inducted into their hall of fame instead of ours

I really don't get why anyone would not want a RU/SH annual game where both teams are really good. The hype and excitement for this early game every year is already big. The games have been intense and lots of fun to watch. Imagine if in 3 or 4 years, both teams are annual tourney teams. It could be one of the premier OOC rivalries in all of college BB.

You will have most fans putting PU on the same importance level as SHU, but Iowa and
Minnesota will never be Despite league
Implications

Iowa doesn't ignore Iowa State (they may tell you otherwise, but they dont)

Wisconsin doesn't ignore Marquette or vice versa

Kentucky doesn't ignore Indiana

Missouri and Illinois hate each other more than Illinois vs Northwestern....Illinois vs Indiana in hoops has a lot of historical recruiting bad blood over decades.

Xavier and Cincinnati don't like each other at all and share the same city. but not the same conference

Kansas and Missouri don't like each other from the old Big 8/Big 12 days....there's a lot of angst there too.

These are just a handful of rock fights that are more regional than anything, but they all have some recent history (last 20 to 30 years) that brings the blood pressure up a notch.

I am not sure whether Seton Hall RU is that level, but my expectation is that SHU will be a winning program for the foreseeable future and RU is on it's way to establishing a new wave of basketball for this next decade that can be sustained because we finally have the financial horsepower to overcome whatever mistakes or hiccups may occur along the way.

We are only talking about rivalries if the two schools can be competitive and right now both PSU and SHU appear on the path of being winning regional programs in the future. So we get to deal with both of them and see what happens. I have been fairly confident for more than a few years that RU with the right work ethic and culture, could win consistently on football and hoops and other sports as well, once the financial part of the ledger was organized and cleaned up. Both major programs have the upside to provide what Jim Delany ultimately saw when he extended the olive branch for joining the B1G.

not sure what to be upset about. They are mostly praising Rutgers.

Personally, I'd love for SHU and Rutgers to be great teams consistently. Throw in St. Johns. If kids stayed home at these 3 schools, we would all benefit. And theres plenty of talent to divide between the 3 of us. Put NYC back on the college hoops map. Schedule OOC games with SHU and St. Johns consistently.

RU referencing Bloomfield?

Just wondering

I think the time will come that the SHU/RU hoops rivalry will fade as the Princeton one has. Not saying that is good, or awful, but I think that will be the natural progression as Maryland, PSU and other B1G rivalries grow.

The most heated I ever heard a Court Club meeting get was many years a go when the topic was playing Princeton. At the time we played them once a year alternating sites typically. A loyal old timer was adamant that not playing them home and home each year was a terrible travesty. Most felt otherwise. But traditions can be stubborn things.

Would I mind having Princeton back on the schedule once a year? No. Do I think it's a big deal we don't play them any given year? No.

Do I want to drop SHU from the OOC. Not yet. Would it be awful if we did. Not necessarily.
