OT: 'Fire him immediately': Maryland fans turn on Kevin Willard ahead of Terrapins' Sweet Sixteen matchup

What is Willard supposed to do?
1. Lie
2. Not want a better job with more resources and a better fanbase?
His actions might be pushing Maryland for the NIL funds he feels is lacking and getting more resources for his program.
Essentially saying: fix the problems that are bothering me or add finding a new HC to the problem list.

lmfao...it makes no diffference at all...Nova has always ate our lunch and NJ kids besides the Harpers dont come here...its meaningless...they are a big time program we arent, has nothing to do with nil and everything to do with the last 100 years.

Maryland a very good program cannot even retain Willard....think about that. we are hundred rungs below Maryland
He just wanted to get yet another post in there about Rutgers fans sucking at giving $$$$

People want to bust on KW? How bout the coach at North Texas Who won a game the other night and with his team in the final 4 of NIT took a job with WVU after the tournament ends? ( I think WVU)

My understanding of the situation is that he is advocating for the basketball team to get a bigger slice of the UMD NIL pie and to be afforded a bigger travel budget. Is he not supposed to want those things?

He has been honest to a fault I guess. Personally, I don't see what the big deal is.
At least he's being upfront. If he bolts and didn't warn them their fans would be screaming at that next.
Well not my pig and not my farm..so..

Do you expect HC Schiano and HC Pike to slum it on commercial planes?
You must hate Rutgers.
Is your family more important than jet fuel?

"With the competition surrounding recruiting, contributions directly support private jet flight time, allowing our coaching staff to maximize their efforts in competing for the top talent in the nation."

Holy crap.. I didn't know these existed. Do we have R Fund clubs to buy lunches to? Can I buy Greg or Steve a new shirt now and again?

What happened to just general funds for each sport. Wow. Thanks for that.

Do you ever get tired of your job as board police here frantically stalking me or other posters that do not spout the company line coming out of rudderless athletic department

truth hurts and that is why all you do here is just make personal attacks and stalk. Maryland and Nova dwarf Rutgers. Are you disputing this
Critically attacking, certainly, stalking no, but won't stop pointing out your useless / constant negative crap about RU. I'll do this in the open as I'd do to anyone who wears a phoney masquerade and loves to make RU look bad. Truth hurts that you do nothing good or positive to benefit RU. And don't act like you're constructively critical. Who needs those that relish telling us whats wrong with RU. Try defending RU for a change, now that would be out of character for you..I've said it often does RU want you in its foxhole. No way.

My first thought also
I'm assuming you know that the court didn't mandate that goes to what sport.. he's fighting for his team and frankly UM basketball is a better problem than it's football program.

I didn't see that...how can the court dictate where the money is going??

Hodge was at North Texas and go to WV after the NIT is over ( for UNT)

No sorry if I confused.. they can't do that. Schools decide how to both split up the RS amoungst teams and teams decide how to split it up amongst the players.

Nothing to be sorry about , it's not like either school is well known and you confused Texas with Texas A&M.

Yes thanks for the correction. I didn't mean to suggest he was leaving before the finish. But just imagine being in that team who won a fantastic game the other night then find out coach is leaving. Will be really interesting to see how they play next game.

( Those back to back to back 3 point shots end game were nuts). As good as any NCAA tournament game I've seen so far save Col. st. V. UMD.

It's a bummer when change happens with games to go.
Would be nice if the hiring process couldn't start until after tourney season is over , but that will never happen
Even if that rule was made , you can bet your sweet bippy, backdoor deals would be made during tourney time , making the rule a joke.

Stalking yes

You contribute nothing but personal attacks

There are many reasons we are F'd. Williard going to Nova would be on the bottom of the list.
The point is, we didn’t need a bigger list. We have enough to worry about.

The last thing we needed is Willard at Villanova with the resources to be successful.

Basketball recruiting is national at this point, most of the players on our roster the past several years are from outside the region.
Our best chance at landing impact players are kids from Jersey due to proximity.

Cliff went to High School in NJ.

All you f' ing do is attack RU and you're a hypocrite. What do you contribute?? Not only do you think your shyt doesn't stink but you act like you're an informed " expert" and by the way you're not an insider or an expert. Believe me no one at RU would give a guy like you the time of day knowing your attitude about anything Rutgers. Yeah we need more recaps telling us how we suck.

Another hypoccrtable statement --you made it a thread about comparing RU to Villanova and Maryland .Start a post about how unfavorable RU compares to those schools if you want that discussion. Keep it out of a Willard thread. But face it you can't control yourself about being critical of Ru in every post.

This is how fans accept the coaches "hitting the portal", but players do it, and the sport is being burned to the ground......LOL

Let's stop feeling sorry for Maryland.....they 10000% worked behind the scenes for at least a week or more 3 years or so ago, negotiating with Kevin Willard to leave Seton Hall, after MD fired Mark Turgeon.....Willard did the exact same thing he is doing now. Being evasive and hiding from the questions....it just didn't get enough publicity because Seton Hall made the NCAAs and got destroyed in the 8-9 game vs TCU.......

I think this Maryland backcourt is good enough to hit shots, so it may not matter vs Florida. But Nova has kinda boxed themselves in, by waiting on Willard.

He’s making a statement. He wants more money that and can you blame him. Their football team is taking most of the money and Locks threw a shot at him. Maryland is a basketball school.

Just to correct the record -- Maryland didn't fire Mark Turgeon; he resigned during the season and Willard was hired a few months later after the season ended (he was not the primary target).

But yeah, changing coaches usually gets slimy and ugly, and that one probably sucked from Seton Hall's perspective.

I'm happy that the Terps made it this far, but I think they are out of their depth tonight...

Rutgers is zero compared to those programs.

All you do is stalk me. I am concerned for your health. Did they recently change your meds. I will be contacting your mental health professional in the morning to do a check

Great fan and person-- Rutgers is zero-- you really do suck-- and I'm more convinced than ever about that and that you deserve my criticism. You're worst than any Seton Hall fan that attacks RU.

“Rutgers is zero compared to those programs.” ZERO is pretty harsh.

personally i would've liked to see him finish out the season with his team. maybe have your agent do some behind the scenes stuff but keep it out of the media at all costs. and if it gets to the media deny it whole heartedly until after the season.

but he's made this into a circus for the players that are a major reason he's getting this job.

One thing that made it more ugly than these situations usually are is the simultaneous departure of the athletic director, which brought many issues to light...

I was about to disagree respectfully. But after some Googling, I was reminded that your comment is more true than I remembered:

"After a series of conversations with Coach Turgeon, we agreed that a coaching change was the best move for Coach Turgeon and for the Maryland Men's Basketball program," Evans said in a statement. "He has dedicated over a decade of his life to the University of Maryland, and has coached with distinction and honor. ... He's a great coach and a great person, and I wish Mark, his wife Ann and his entire family all the best in the next chapter of their lives."

He was a year removed from tying for the B1G title and a being likely 3 seed in the NCAAs, though, and had just been extended until 2026.

I liked him, and think he was as good or better than Willard. Landing Diamond Stone in 2016 was every bit as remarkable as landing Derik Queen. He made one Sweet Sixteen and would likely have made it in the Covid year.

Unfortunately, there was a core of fans who thought the school could do better, and after some bad losses in early 2021 (before he resigned in December), there was some booing in Comcast Center. Mark was rather thin-skinned, and took criticisms to heart, and also, his son had gotten into some social media spats defending his dad.

So, anyway, I have no quarrel with what you said here...
