Everyone is already breaking records throwing against us,
Bring the safety down, get a nose man on the center, sell out for TFL’s and blitz on obvious passing downs.

I agree. But DBs need to make open field tackles if they are 1:1.
It’s very difficult for DB’s to tackle when backs are at full speed.
We look like a soft football team allowing teams to run all over us like we’re weaklings.
Get tough and bone jar the run.
They may throw for 400, but at least we won’t be soft as butter

This is all wonderful but with all the injured players, either out or playing hurt, I think it’s gonna be a lot of bend-but-don’t break D where we can’t overcommit to run D or getting to the QB. So I expect we’ll see lots of yards gained, but hopefully only in short chunks and maybe we can get off the field in some 3rd downs or get turnovers.

But I’ll be surprised if we are in any way dominant on D. Hanging on for dear life seems more likely. Hopefully our O has gotten better in the bye week.

I’d rather attempt the opposite Mildy.^^^^
They have a great back, I’d base my defense on stone walling him and pray.
It’s awful getting dominated up front and allow the whole country to think we’re milquetoast.
Let em throw, maybe we’ll get lucky or actually put pressure on the QB.

Giants Carl Banks said if you can’t stop the run or the pass, choose one to stop.

I'd rather give up 600 yards rushing if it gave us a better chance of winning.

Just don't understand the "we have to play this certain way because that's what I want/prefer."

How about do whatever is necessary to win?

We will lose if you can’t stop either one, that’s why you choose one.
Don’t be ridiculous Nick , there’s no formula for best chance to win when you’re a sieve on defense in both phases. Winning would be pure luck.
Stop the run.

That's exactly what opponents do to RU.

Schiano-coached teams always try to stop the run first. My point is that we cannot be overly aggressive about that because we have relatively inexperienced and/or injured LBs and DBs. Since the injuries in the Wisconsin game (I think it was), every time we get aggressive about shooting gaps to stop the run in the backfield, we get gashed for big yards either by missing the tackle or by the play not being the run we expected and winding up with a pass over the middle that our LB mistakenly vacated.

So I'm pretty sure we'll try to stop the run first, but not with lots of LB or DB aggression. It'll be sitting back, fitting gaps, and trying to limit yards rather than stopping the play in the backfield.

Had we been fully healthy, I think we'd have been seeing lots more aggression from the D, with many more stops in the backfield.

If we're healthier than I expect, this might all be out the window and we might see more aggression. Anyway, we'll see soon enough.

No pass rush and zone D equals completion after completion for an accurate, on time QB.
Yes, and that's what we've seen since the injuries on the D became so numerous. But it's a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation. The theoretical advantage of playing cautious run D and zone is that we force the other team to run lots of plays which creates lots of opportunities for forcing mistakes and turnovers.

But... that relies on good tackling which hasn't been so great these last few games.

If I were GS, I'd dial up an unusually aggressive offensive approach because I think the only way we have any chance at all in this game is to score a ton of points. I think D has sustained too many injuries to too many key players - we're gonna give up points.

I hope I'm totally wrong about that. But I don't think I am.

Gef is a coach, he knows it’s very difficult to defend the pass when you’re tackling running backs in the secondary all game long
