All,
Perhaps this is a little out of the norm for the Round Table, but as it in support of a top athletics program at Rutgers, I hope this post is well received.
Rutgers Wrestling just had a great win at Madison Square Garden against top ten ranked Cornell….the first time in nearly 20 years for a dual meet victory by the Scarlet Knights over Big Red. Five of our guys are ranked in top 20 nationally, including Sean McCabe's first time. We are looking forward to seeing everyone at Nebraska (Dec 12) and future home matches. We are a top ten attendance program and the excitement around our program is building quickly. This should continue with top redshirts returning, a great recruiting class, and the Big Ten schedule of college wrestling's best competition.
One of the ways we got here were pledges made to the SKWC Pin Pool. We are at $858/pin pledged and trying to hit $1000/pin. If we hit our goals and get to the 40-55 pins we average normally, this is $40,000-$55,000 raised. http://www.scarletknightswrestlingclub.com/pin-pool
We are big fans of full transparency and there are a lot of great groups fund raising, so here is some info on why you might consider investing in the pin pool.
History: Founded in 2011 by RU Wrestling alums and boosters, the SKWC Foundation is an independent, non-profit corporation with a mission to promote amateur wrestling in the United States. As an IRS 501c3 group, we have our own volunteer board of directors, bylaws, tax filings, etc. The foundation supports the Rutgers Wrestling program by, among other things, adding budget and resources for items that a top 20 program needs but are not in the Athletics Budget, including equipment, off season tournament fees, off season travel for training, and attracting All-Americans like Tyler Graff, Josh Demas and Ziad Haddad to keep our athletes sharp. SKWC is incredibly efficient with almost no overhead.
Current Goal: The SKWC fundraising goal for this year is to raise $125,000 primarily to keep our top level SKWC coaching staff and to pay for off-campus housing for our staff and visiting top talent that need accommodations for a few nights while they train.
SKWC Pin Pool Facts:
- The two main fund raising efforts for SKWC are the golf outing and the pin pool.
- Typically 70-80 donors per year, our goal is 100+ donors this year
- 40 to 60 pins per year is typical range
- Currently $858/pin this is our highest level ever. Our goal is $1000/pin for 2015/16.
- SKWC is a fully tax deductible IRS 501c3 IRS. Tax letters are issued to Pin Pool donors for over $250 donations per IRS guidelines.
- Pledges are paid in March and April after the NCAA Championships has completed.
The Pin Pool not only supports the team, it keeps the kids focused on the ultimate wrestling goal – Billy Smith & Anthony Perrotti have cheered repeatedly “That’s another $XYZ bucks” after pins!
Thank you and we hope you will consider investing a donation in the SKWC Pin Pool!
