I shared a train ride in with a "connected" booster who says that we've only had interviews with Mario C and Bob Diaco. No meeting with Golden yet. Supposedly the new AD hasn't even had a phone call with GS who has indicated only to Greg Brown that he'd potentially be interested in coming back.

Anyone hear anything different?

we all seem to have "connected boosters" and each of our boosters are telling us something different. I think the common thread between all of the boosters is that no one has a clue and everyone is working off of rumor and things they read on a bathroom wall.

Half the people on this board are well connected boosters and everyone is hearing different names. Hobbs, Barchi, and Co. Are keeping their cards incredibly close to their chest. It wouldn't surprise me if we hire Mullen nor would it surprise me if Wilson was made the permenant coach. At this point, no one knows.

And even with all those boosters, we seem to have trouble pulling in the right kind of money.

Hope it is BS. If not, it means we are being played big time. "Hey we went after a bunch of big fish (in our minds). Unfortunately were were out bid (in our minds). Sorry to have to settle again (for real)."

Would want Diaco over the other two.

Both got fired for losing with better players than the teams they lost to.

That's exactly what we don't need.

Golden - pass
Diaco? We hire him I will never watch an RU game until he is gone.

Golden prob most realistic choice. Has a ton of experience and can recruit. Wasn't a great fit in Miami and hopefully his northeast background and connections will help. He would be super motivated after being fired by Miami he knows if he doesn't succeed here he may never get another head coach opportunity.

Guys, the boosters are in the dark on this one. Any names that they're telling you are names they are getting from us. As someone alluded to earlier, one or two boosters were given "the level of coach" we'd try to target, but to my knowledge there have been no names shared with anyone. This is definitely uncharted territory for RU with regards to keeping the search so close to the vest.

One thing that I have heard (unrelated to the search) is that Hobbs is expecting to bring in donor money from people outside of the RU alumni network, which is probably exactly what we need. Those who didn't like the hire because it was "political" don't understand how valuable "political" can be.

If you said "I shared a G4 flight with a "connected" booster ...." there would be more credibility with the thread. Dude on PATH or NJ Transit train ain't cutting it.

As for Patrick not having spoken with Schiano (whether true or not we don't know), two things to consider: the first is that he's only been on the job two full days, and the second is that he hired an outside search firm to do the due diligence. I would doubt he would've spoken with anyone quite yet, but if he has it most likely would've involved Brown.

How much money do you have to give to become a "booster"?

In a vacuum Golden would be a very good choice, but I watched enough Miami football last year to know that something was really, really off. If the choices are Golden, Cristobal or Diaco (and I'm not saying they are) I'd probably take Diaco over the other two.

I respectfully disagree on Golden. He reminds me of Flood in a jacket and tie. I want someone who moves the needle and creates a buzz. Not sure Golden or Diaco do that.

Ouchmyknee, you said it well and make good sense that some of the blind here cannot see. Hobbs will do well for us because of his "political" contacts much like BobM did and continues to do. Make no.mistake that somewhere in all of the recent events Bob is involved in a positive manner. It makes too much sense contrary to what a Zofunger or anyone else might think. Bob has been too visible at Rutgers athletics recently to not support his vision and things he wanted to see accomplished and that is a winning football program that drives the bus for other things.

Diaco is probably the best RU can hope for.
Whats he got the Mario C doesnt? Wnhy would you take a guy who MIGHT prove to be a good HC and recruiter, when you can get a guy who has proven to be a good HC and recruiter?

If those names are any indication, then we wont be hiring someone who moves the needle. Thats just not hte price range that needle moving candidates live in.

No - I get how valuable political can be - but people tend to ignore the flip side - that politicians arent fans - they want something in return for their support (and also - a lot of money with an inexperienced manager isnt a great thing either - fortunately we had an actual professional on the job to reform the drparmtnet and create an atheltics master plan to guide the way I guess.)

And not post here ever again? For that alone, it's worth taking Diaco if he even wants the job.

Am confused. Are you saying Mario C has accomplished something or been a good HC?

if it was Cristobal or Diaco we were after, the hire would have been made last night. Those guys are good coaches, but they wouldn't be hard to land. I'm not buying this one bit.

I think ouchmyknee nailed it.

Yes- I would consider taking a program that hadnt won before or since and winning is something. I dont know if I would say he has been a good HC - but I wouldnt say that Diaco has either - lets remember - Randy Edsall won their too.

My youngest son, who still sits in a connected booster seat, feels Schiano had his chance already and claimed his sudden departure left a stench behind reminiscent of one of his filled diapers.

So there is some sort of association between your son and a booster. Who are we hiring?
