So, we saw a lot of Wolf at the 4, and I like it.

He’s improved, and I really think it was a strong lineup with him at 4 along with Cliff at 5. If we can play Gavin at 3 then JMike and Williams, that’s are best lineup.

Hyatt just hasn’t improved especially around the basket on layups… still. Simpson ? Head scratcher…

A work in progress.

This game he was a better option than Cliff defensively at the 5. Cliff’s legs do not support guarding on the perimeter.

They both played together with Wolf a lot at 4.

It’s not the 80’s anymore. Can’t have two bigs with virtually no outside game. Clogs up the paint.
Did you watch the game? You did notice them on tge floor together right? Hence my post. He will play 4 a lot this year.

I was at the game and saw it, doesn’t mean I have to like it. Almost every team in the country has at least somewhat of a threat from the outside at the 4, hence my it’s not the 80’s reply. I like Wolf but he’s a 5 not a 4. Maybe some match ups he could play the 4 but last night was definitely not it.

He needs to be on the court more Cliff is still the same old Cliff the ball goes in and boom its like going into a black hole; He is still god awful around the rim even missed a dunk last night and never passes out of a double

Was pleasantly surprised by Wolf’s perimeter D. Felt he neutralized Pearce well when he was in the game.

As others have said though, the team already struggles enough with spacing / shooting to have two complete non-shooters on the floor

I really like Woolf in transition. He’s got a good handle for a big and he can run. If we go to a super up-tempo look at times, having him in there with Cliff makes sense for both speed and defense.

He’ll hit the boards and get put-backs, and he’ll also get lay-ins on the break, all of which is preferable to a Hyatt 0-fer from deep with no defense or rebounding. Woolf also has that positive team-first attitude, which you gotta love.

He started again last night. Some people thought I was nuts but that’s his position. We need him at the 4 and even when Mag returns his strength especially against bigger teams will be needed . His foul shooting needs to improve but he has a nice touch around the basket.

I would like see the plus/minus #s when both on the floor versus just one. I am pretty sure we had a good stretch when Cliff went to the bench with two fouls in the first half. Also our rebounding last night was not good and if that is not a positive with both of them in there then I am not sure where we have an advantage both are clearly limited on the offensive end. The other 3 better be cooking offensively if you want to go that route. I think Wolf goes back to the bench when Mag is ready.

Wolf will not go back to the bench if he keeps improving. Mag is more of a 3 and will have to get into game.

I think some on this board are being a little hard on Hyatt. He has carried the scoring load overall so far this season. Some of his down low misses are maddening, I get that. And his outside shot is streaky. But when he's on, he's on. And he's a physical mature player. He's been shooting really well from the foul line, and rebounding with a purpose. He's frustrating to watch at times, for sure, but other times he's a pleasure to watch and can really impact a game positively. Plus Pike praised his vocal leadership in the G'Town postgame. That should not be overlooked, that is super important. Along with Cliff & Oskar, he is a key veteran and a guy who who has returned yet again despite what I'm sure were opportunities elsewhere.

That said, I love Wolf's development & effort so far. But if I were him, I'd STILL be at JMA right now, working on my foul shots. We're gonna need him to improve there come league play as his size, physicality & increased quickness could make him a matchup problem for other teams when he is at the 4, meaning he WILL get fouled a good amount, just like last night.

Wolf has shown growth and quickness, inside moves, nice handle and pretty good foul shooter.

Indiana starts two bigs (Ware/Reneau), Michigan starts two bigs (Reed/Nkamhoua), Purdue (Eden/Kaufman-Renn), Nebraska (Mast/Allick), Wisconsin (Crowl/Wahl), etc., etc. B1G doesn’t have a bunch of 6’7” guys playing center and 6’6” guys playing the 4 like mid/low majors and even the Big East. B1G is different. We will see 6’10” and 6’8” front lines in most B1G games.

This. Being too hard on Hyatt is way too typical a take here. He's a clear starter on this team. I do like Wolf at the 4 though.

Hyatt played much better against Georgetown. He cut down on forced bad shots and mistakes. It's probably not a coincidence that it coincided with the guards actually stepping up and playing well. If we can get better guard play consistently, hopefully it does lead to a smarter more efficient Hyatt who doesn't feel tje need to force things on offense

5 minutes with both of them out there.

I like the concept of
Cliff 29
Woolfolk 11+5 = 16
Bingo …this is exactly his role for this year

Center
Cliff 29
Wolf 11

Power forward
Mag 28
Wolf 5
Aundre 7

Small forward
Aundre 20
Gavin 20

Shooting guard
Gavin 6

Other guard minutes 74
Simpson 26
Noah 26
Jmike 22

That’s 8 guys

Austin Williams is first 1-3 off bench as number 9 when their are fouls

Oskar Palmquist is first 4-5 bench as nunber 10 when their fouls

Antonio chol pushes for the number 10 role if he can show he can defend (not like Georgetown )

Jerimah Williams and emmual ogobke redshirt

That’s a good point. However, I think this style of play is a main reason why BIG teams don’t go far in post season play. It’s just not the modern way of playing ball. I also don’t like Wolf at the 4 because he’s our back up 5 with no one behind him. If both Cliff and Wolf pick up fouls early, who’s playing the 5? Hyatt? Oskar? Giving up a ton at that spot if that were to happen.
