So What's the Story With "Shoes"?

Then why did essentially every kid that transferred end up in the tournament once they left? If you think that a bunch of Sun Belt players can somehow magically come together and even get us into the NIT then you are sadly mistaken. Take a look at the recruiting rankings and name me one team-one-that has been remotely successful in the Big 10 without say at least 3-5 top 150 players in their lineup.

Our issue is that 1)we can never keep players and 2)We really suck at developing them or maximizing their potential.

I am not debating that.

I'm glad that t
If FIG wasn't busy participating in activities which caused failed drug tests maybe they would have been better players and had more wins.
Holy crap....

This might be the most ridiculous thing I've EVER seen on these boards....

You realize that Farmer and Inman were thousand point scorers and Farmer was 4th all time in assists when he graduated?

I'm not sure what more you wanted considering who was coaching those guys at the end. I also wonder how well you actually know any of them to assassinate their good deeds for Rutgers.

FIG may have been flawed to a certain extent in a few ways...but to make an irresponsible declaration like this just shows me how little you know or care about this program and its former players.

Farmer is an educator, father of two, and recently coached with St Augustine Prep, who just won a state championship. He reached out to me last week to see how he can give back to the program and Coach Pikiell. Inman is still plying his wares playing professionally, and is a published author. Only Griffin remains a bit of an enigma.

I'd like to see Farmer have some visible involvement with the program. As a fan, I get a sense of satisfaction knowing that guys I cheered for have become successful in life and also have fond memories of their time at Rutgers. (Likewise, it pisses me off when I see them squander the opportunity they have been given, or treat their alma mater and fans poorly.)

That isn't the argument. This isn't fantasy football where guys get plugged in and their play is independent of who their teammates are. When Sanders went out we couldn't DL him and go to the waiver wire and pick up Bryant McIntosh. Think about the dynamic Mike Rosario being in the program had. Did he change the culture? Did his inclusion in the program help FIG be better players and lead to more wins?

Right now we've got Z E R O buzz. Corey has it. This is a simple decision: if shoes has holes ...fix them. Make him happy for a year or two until we can win a few games,
have Corey make it to the next level and start recruiting like we belong!

1. The guys were talented enough on the court. Numbers say it. Just pointing out a lack of commitment.

2. I did not saying I wanted anything more from them. Just pointed out that the players certainly shoulder part of the blame for "lack of wins (another poster words, not mine)".

3. Is this an irresponsible declaration? Maybe. But doesn't that make the players actions more irresponsible?

4. I'm glad Anthony is a family man (I don't believe Anthony was part of FIG that was suspended...)That he and Inman are still involved in the program is good news. I give griffin my best wishes.

Why the need to attack me? I didn't say anything that wasn't true. I wasn't even calling them out as the suspensions are public record. I don't think you read the following posts either. I'd much rather not make comments about any player being suspended or smoking weed but it would be better for everyone if they didn't do it.
Blame lies everywhere for past ineptitude.

At the time it seemed to be a good idea, but the way it was done probably put a curse on the program.
Waters had competitive teams, but losing ones 2 out of his five years as the RU HC and the 3 NIT trips weren't enough for most RU fans.
Hindsight does help see the mistake made and I always wondered : if Mulcahy didn't cut Gary's throat to bring in Hill as his assistant , with every intention of replacing Waters. what would have happened if Freddie would have stayed the assistant and Gary would have stayed the HC .
I think with Freddie's recruiting and Gary's coaching,RU MBB would been a constant NCAA Tourney team.

As it was RU traded a good HC that couldn't recruit enough of the type of players to make RU a dance team for a great recruiting assistant that couldn't coach a major college basketball program and made it worse than any of Waters teams were .

Mulcahy panicked when it was rumored the Hall might hire Hill as its HC and in that panic hired someone that lead RU MBB into the downward spiral that RU still is feeling.

Right, and he was stampeded by message board traffic, largely from newbie posters who knew nothing, or next to nothing. Hill had a rep as a great recruiter working with The Nova, but wasn't that effective at RU. Not only could he not coach, he created a toxic atmosphere--the next savior was always in his next recruiting class, and he cr*pped on most of his players, especially the ones he inherited. Still cannot believe there were people who insisted FHJ needed to be extended, not fired, when he proved conclusively that he was an awful coach and a worse person. Meanwhile, of course, Gary Waters took his band of over matched players to the NCAA's, where he played Wake Forest, with four future NBA starters, won over the crowd and dispatched Wake rather handily. Yeah, I admit it--wanted GW to stay, because he had more success at RU than the 7 or 8 coaches before and after him had, combined. On board with Piliell, if any players from last season are not OK with that, Happy Trails.
