So, with all the excitement, rankings, tourney talk and more, do we get a recruiting bump?

Pikiell has obviously built a very good team with a nice mix of top 150 kids and not so highly rated kids, but was wondering if we can break through and finally nab a top 50 recruit, like Cliff Omoruyi (he's the kind of talent we could really use, especially at a position of need) or someone else. I have to believe kids watching our team win big games in front of sold out crowds with serious defense and teamwork (and coaching) might just want to be part of that. Even without a bag of cash. Or do we have to make it to the Dance first? Thoughts?

I've heard it is the dance for some kids ...

I don’t think Cliff will end up here and I’m not sure 2020 will be the year we breakthrough on the recruiting cycle. But 2021/2022 could be.

A couple names to keep an eye on.

Trey Patterson and Jaquan Harris

So far, we are seeing something that is still in its infancy. I doubt too many top players will just decide to jump into a situation that has a history like Rutgers.
I know if I were recruiting a top player for another school, I would just point to RU's futility in the sport. Just say this is a brief spurt and nothing more.

With our super sophs and the continued development of our freshman Mulcahy, the next 2 years are looking like major advances are in store for RU b-ball.

If I were a top recruit for 2020 or 2021 I’d have to give us serious consideration, just based on our current trajectory as a team.

Add in the fact that we play in the B1G and in a huge media market with a good to great head coach and staff, and our raucous home court arena, and I’d say we’re becoming an attractive landing place for top talent.

IF -- and it's a big if -- we beat Illinois, I think we'll be ranked and there will be three days of very positive press for Rutgers heading into the Indiana game.

The top CBB story on The Athletic right now is a very positive one about Penn State's team. Rutgers is going to get that kind of treatment IF we can crack the top 25.

I don't expect there to be any kind of anti-Rutgers bias from voters. If anything, there's the novelty factor to putting Rutgers in the top 25, like national guys like Goodman and Parrish have done in their midweek rankings.

The top recruits get paid in one way or another to go to whatever school is the highest bidder. If Pike starts getting some mid level 4 star kids in addition to his awesome diamond in the rough recruiting we're gonna be really good for years to come.

Why do we need it if we are this good with our current recruiting? We started 4 sophs vs PSU and it's not like PSU played poorly..they were hitting plenty of baskets and would've closed that gap had we let up. The sky is the limit for the guys on this team. Wherever pikiell can get more guys like McConnell and Johnson, he should.

Of course I wanna land cliff. But honestly we're fine if we don't land him.

I have always thought (and said) we need to recruit under the radar types and not pretend we are something we aren’t. Once the results improved then we could be inline with some of the better talent.

I’d think the NCAA tournament and a string of sellouts could do that.

Couldn’t agree more. The past is just that - past - you sell the future which right now looks real good. Come help make us a top 25 or better team. Once there we should be able to stay there wit tri state talent alone.
