Soldano looking for medical redshirt due to concussion

If he gets the redshirt do you think he drops down a weight class next year or does he look to transfer with Walsh in his way at 184?

I think he’ll stay. This might be similar to the Shawver situation when he was battling at 125 with Peterson. Redshirted, weight sorted itself out, rest is history.

Yeah, but he's too small to go up to 197. The only option is to go down if he can't beat Walsh.

Nah thats what many Rutgers wrestlers wind up doing and they get bullied by the top 15 guys that are cutting 30 lbs.
Shawver was originally a 125 who AA’d at 133

Turley was originally a 165 that AA’d at 174

Sebastian Rivera was originally a 125/133 at Northwestern and AA’d at 141 at Rutgers

Nick Suriano was originally a 125 that won a national title at 133

Anthony Ashnault was originally a 141 that won a national title at 149

Anthony Perrotti was originally a 157 that AA’d at 165.

Majority of our recent success stories have all benefitted from moving up. Sure some guys move up and it doesn’t work out but don’t pretend it’s an auto failure. It’s not.

Agree it's definitely been successful for Rutgers. Although I think Soldano going 174 and SCW staying at 184 is the best move . If Poz doesn't use his last year hit the portal for a 197. Will need to portal a HWT as well. The best guys are all back up to 165.Not sure that White or Barbosa will be big enough for 174. As of now Blanchette will probably be the guy

Bingo. Also a lot of those guys that moved up and didn’t have success, moved up because they didn’t have a spot in the lineup otherwise. Or did it to help the team. If Walsh puts on the muscle and cuts down to 97, he could be fine with his height, and the benefit of a full off season training with Labs.
Then again maybe he stays at 84. This is all just speculation at this point. But to assume moving up in weight is an auto fail, is silly

Would love to see us go after Hwt Taye Ghadiali from Campbell. He is taking a medical redshirt and will have one year left. Would be a huge get at Hwt for us.

I agree with all of this. Just saying that bumping up doesn’t have to be a bad thing.

I agree with that. Penn st and Oklahoma st will need HWTs as well . Not sure Mirasola is big enough yet for HWT. And Oklahoma st will still have Doucet but could see them going after a HWT

I think all the successful examples moved up because cutting was too difficult. Does SCW have trouble making weight? Blanchette is 3rd in line at 165, so will he be a good fit at 174? Remember, Chapman is coming in at 174. I think Poz should move on; he doesn't seem to have the drive anymore. Casale and Packer will not fill the shoes, so maybe portal is a good idea. Has anyone heard about Torranzo's potential at HWT? Bill said he's hurt or injured. Must have been from practice since we haven't heard of him in any action. The kid is very strong.

I don't believe SCW is a big 184. Not sure about Blanchette being ready for 174 big 10. My opinion Chapman will benefit from a RS. I think Goody will look for portal guys at 174 and Hwt. 197 will depend on what Poz decides.

Agree on this. And remember the Roster must be at 30 next season, current roster is at 37 with six finishing up(I am including Poz). So 31 plus all the incoming frosh. RU will have to get rid of about 6-7 current roster guys.

The jump from 184 to 197 is harder, by far, than all those lower weight jumps. Not saying SCW can’t do it (especially over two seasons) but there is a much better AA opportunity at 184.

Walsh certainly has the frame for a 197, but I think it's best to try and get Soldano down to 174. He's got to want it though. Casale could become a ranked wrestler IMO. If he's dedicated and in the room with Labs then it's definitely doable.

Don't forget about Ford at 165. He has shown some good potential. He beat the same Ohio State kid as Barbosa. With that said, I'd put Blanchette 4th in line right now. I think we need Ford and Blanchette to beef up a bit over the summer for that 174 spot. I can see Chapman growing into 184 (and perhaps Walsh moving up his final two years).

Don't forget about Magro. We're probably going to have a lot of skilled guys in that 157-174 ranch. If we're able to land Bassett, then I have to think we'd ultimately land Miller too.

While I know they're trying their best, we need to land top heavyweight transfer and bluechip recruit at that spot. I think that will be the most important hole that needs to be filled. This team is going to be special over the next few years and we'll need an anchor for that last match in the duals.

Agree, hoping Soldano goes down to 174, since all our 165lbers are a little small at 165. Magro is very good, not sure how much bigger he will get. If Soladano does not go down, thinking Chapman could be an option at 174 next year.

I think we need both a Hwt and a 197lber in the portal.
I am not confident at all that Casale could be a ranked wrestler. He has had Labs since August and look at his record against a lot of backups. We really need both upper weights to be filled in the portal

Chapman will need a RS . My opinion he will struggle in the hand fight and creating offense. Bottom will also be a struggle. I like his potential but throwing him in at 174 in the big 10 might not be the best thing for his future
