Sort of OT: "He had the base. He had the ball. What else is there?"

If the Cardinals make it to the WC....they may have Don Denkinger / the curse of the 1985 WS to thank (Karma?).

Last night, the Cards won in the 9th on a double by Molina. The problem is that Carpenter was rounding 2nd when the ball hit above an area that by definition is a ground rule double.

Of course the Umps could have determined that Carpenter would have scored (guessing on this one)
but it raises several questions:
1.Looks like this play may help determine who the Mets will play in the WC game
2. Could impact the Giants if they win 2 of 3 games they can do no worse than tie
3. Cards need to win at least 2- 3 though beating Pittsburg 3 straight would help immensely (but the Pirates are at least fighting for dignity / another winning season after nearly a generation of futilility

I LOVE the Cards...always have. But for me, nothing (except Rutgers football /to a lesser extent men's basketball) presents the highs of playoff baseball (in the sporting world)

Question: would you accept a Ghost of Jorge Orta moment / call FOR Rutgers against tOSU that results in a "W"....or do the rules fairly applied over ride the desire for a "W"?

Just wondering: I think i'd take a Denkinger moment given the seemingly insurmountable odds (#2 team @ the horseshoe, Grant / Lambert out, Hamilton banged up / Laviano on life support so far this season-facing coach that "put us on the map").

PS And what about the 1.7 seconds that Higgins et al stole from Rutgers in 2011? http://newyork.cbslocal.com/2011/03...om-tournament-after-st-johns-rutgers-blunder/

Well, ignoring that the Orta moment didn't actually result in a "W" for KC, I'd totally take a win on a bad call over tOSU on Saturday. If we were playing well enough that a single bad call going in our favor handed us the W, I'd take a win any way we could get it. I'd count it as balance for the WVU game in 2006.

Incorrect guess. If the ball bounces over the fence, as it did, by rule the baserunners are allowed two bases and no more. The only time the umpire has the discretion to award more bases is in the case of interference, generally when a fan reaches out and touches the ball as it heads for the corner.

If a team or its fan base worries about who they face in the playoffs then they already have one foot in the grave.Just get there prepare and don't worry about who.or where.

That may be true insofar as the team is concerned, but I think that what we as a fan base worry about has no impact on anything.
