Southern Gentleman: Any thoughts on your former DC, Chris Ash?

I would think the fact that he hasn't commented, combined with him being a gentleman that was probably raised with the manners to not say anything when there's nothing good to say, might be indicative of his thoughts. Will be curious what he says. :)

:flushed: Come on SG, stop taking up Texas and give us the 411

LOL. I am being accused of talking up that team from the tiny state Southwest of Arkansas? LOL. It has been a strange year indeed!

I really don't remember much about Ash. He was at Arkansas in 2013 during Bielima's 1st year. That year was very unremarkable for many reasons but primarily because we didn't win a SEC game.

As I recall, Ash and Bielima just didn't mix well. In the South, we say that they didn't gee-haw well. I don't think it was any one thing. I think it was just that both coaches are somewhat bullheaded and did not communicate very well as a unit or with each other.

Thus, Ash saw an opportunity to move on to bigger and better things(OSU) and Robb Smith took over.

It looks like it is working out for both Ash and Smith. Best wishes to Chris Ash and I will be supportive of him all the way!

He's out eating pork somewhere and drinking bourbon. Damn, I'm jealous. I only have bourbon here.

i thought he worked for Smith. i didn't realize Ash followed BB from Wisconsin to Ark. if so, odd that they didn't mix.

i just looked it up. you are right. he was there for 1 year, 2013. he followed BB from Wisconsin to Ark.

I think Chris Ash will do fine. He has a HC personality. He worked under Urban recently. He has a B1G footprint and has already recruited within that footprint. I look for Rutgers to start making football statements next fall.

Please give him a minimum 3 years before we start to bitch about him! And I hope is initial contract is for $2-$2.5 million for 5 years, with plenty of $$$$$ for quality assistants!

This cannot be understated. getting money for quality assistants is what will allow him to succeed

Now that's interesting advice for this place. If you look at some of the threads on here, he hasn't even been anounced as our coach officially and people want to run him and our new AD out of town for coaching in OSU's bowl game. As if he won't be peforming any coaching duties for us once he's officially on board (tomorrow.)

As you can tell from this picture, Southern's memory shorted out when we met our waitress, so whatever he says about life pre-picture is pure guesswork. Take his reflections about Ash with a grain of salt.

That picture is not that flattering of her, nor me. Men have gone to war over breasts like hers however. And justifiably so!

I wonder why you say he didn't work well with BB when they were both at Wisc together.

Very interesting.

Would you give the guy a FRICKIN CHANCE? He was not at Slippery Rock or Mankato State or even Purdue... He was at the top of the heap if only for 1 year.Have you seen Urban pull many dead rabbits out of his hat? Not to kill the wonderful pessimism here, richly deserved around these parts unfortunately, but maybe, just maybe, we are finally going to do something right and be able to maintain it. Admittedly at 61 I am being more optimistic than I may have once been but I happen to like all that our current landscape displays.. Instead of torturing myself like many of you do, in some cases happily which is bizarre indeed, I choose to take the pause that refreshes and hope we can, as Henry Rollins and Black Flag once bellowed, rise above we're gonna rise above..

We will miss Chris Ash at OSU, but I'm glad he's finally gotten the opportunity to become a Head Coach. His wife, Doreen, is a terrific supporter. She will be a huge asset for Coach Ash and the Rutgers football program!

Well done, Rutgers! I was beginning to believe you didn't have it in you. Now if Purdue could get its act together. Another story for another day!
