Star Wars - Force Awakens Official Trailer

meh. that wasn't a great trailer. However the originals had shitty trailers too. Episodes I, II, III had the best trailers imo. Clone wars was the worst off the movies though.

My rankings from best to worst
1. Empire Strikes Back Ep V
2. Return of the Jedi Ep VI
3. Phantom Menace Ep I
4. Revenge of the Sith Ep III
5. New Hope Ep IV
6. Attack of the Clones Ep II

3 and 4 are somewhat interchangeable imo. All the movies were great though (some better than others)!

Blitz - that list is suspect (lol) , Phantom over New Hope ... Wow. My list :5,4,6,3,1,2

Didn't like what I saw during game. Star Wars has blown a long time - since they made it into McStarWars marketing thing.

I never got the whole Star Wars thing but I'm pretty sure more than half of them were released before blitz was potty trained. Does he get a vote?

@vkj91 I was born in 87, so more than half were NOT released before I was potty trained (half were ;)). And yes that still gets me a vote.

@RUMcMahon New Hope ending was pretty dull. It was pretty lame and i've been watching those movies on repeat since 1990. I really enjoyed the beautiful cgi landscapes, battle scenes and lightsaber duals from Phantom Menace. Not to mention the pod racing. Phantom Menace beats New Hope going away imo.

How much has time passed since episode 6? Jedi's are already a myth?
Apparently this movie series follows a different timeline from the extended universe books where Luke created a new Jedi Academy, hooked up with Mara Jade and then faced down the Yuuzhan Vong invasion.

The first two were cool because I was like 9 when the first one came out. Since then I don't get it. Terrible writing. Care Bears. Racist Rasta guy. Bad acting.

there has been debate about this. Tonight's trailer revealed and did not reveal a lot of things. What it has revealed could still fit within that timeline. Empire through the Imperial army and other 3rd parties made a lot of comeback attempts prior to the Yuuzhan Vong series. I'm still holding out hopes for 10-12 to be the YV plot. Would be such a cool series, it was my favorite in the EU other than the Republic Commando Series.

yeah the ewoks sucked. only real bad thing with return off the jedi. Ewoks and the weird hippie vibe at the end.

Ok. Let's make believe one has never seen any of the movies. What should he watch and in what order without being confused/annoyed.

Force Awakens looks great and I think anyone complaining it looks awful is just a curmudgeon old(er) person. Seems like this film will be more of an homage to 4/5/6 instead of 1/2/3 which I think all we be generally happy out.

Side note: I personally enjoyed Phantom Menace but 2 and 3 were pretty blah.

They were a myth in IV, V, VI too. Remember Han was very skeptical in IV. And at that point there are only a couple of living Jedi/Sith. And the Empire destroyed the Jedi and the Jedi temple 30 years before that and ruled the galaxy probably discredited the Jedi since they were a fascist, totalitarian regime. And very few if any knew what happened on the 2nd Death Star between the Emperor, Vader, and Luke.

so yes I can see how very few people would know/believe in the Force 30 years later.

And yes, I 'm a nerd.

ep 2 had too much lovie dovie sh*t and boring senatorial sh*t (if I wanted to see the latter i'd watch CSPAN). Also Anakin is a whiny little bitch here. ep 3 was too short. Should have been longer to really show the change with Anakin rather than it happening within a blink off an eye.

Somebody likes phantom menace????? Wtf

what was not to like other than jar jar binks? Can't think of one thing other than the annoying gungan.

Close to mine. I'd have 5-4-3-6-1-2. I just loved 5 (Empire Strikes Back), which had those awesome training scenes with Luke and Yoda, plus the great battle scenes on the ice planet Hoth. 4 (Star Wars) has to be up there because it's the original and it's still a great story. 3 and 6 are very close for me. 3 has my favorite battle scenes in the whole series: Yoda vs. the Emperor at the same time that Annakin and Obi-Wan are battling. While 6 has the amazing Luke vs.the Emperor scene, with Vader finally siding with his son to destroy the Emperor, but it also has the annoying Ewoks. 1 and 2 are mostly forgettable. I'm excited for #7, just to see what they do next. My son was telling me they're going to have marathons showing all 7 - I'd only consider that in Cinema Suites (the recliner theaters with food/liquor served), lol.

In the first 3 movies it was like Jedis were a myth. So why not 30 years later? You had 2 jedi's and 2 Sith in the first 3 movies.. hell.. most of the first one had one Jedi and one Sith and we suspected the kid was a Jedi.

It is very easy to imagine most people still chalked up talk of Jedis to rumor and myth.

well in the books, by this time, luke had started a jedi academy on yavin iv. So you'd think for him to get students, people would need to know that jedi exist. Plus Jacen Solo (Han's son) turns to the dark side and kills Ben Skywalker (luke's son) iirc so people would know about the sith too i'd guess. But that would all be a non-issue if it were an alternate universe/timeline to the one in the books. I would think they'd choose to go with a fresh timeline so that no one knows what to expect. Keeps it fresh for everyone.

I forget what storyline JJ is melding but I thought I read that Luke goes into exile. Timothy Zhan series would have been an interesting trilogy.

Completely agree and honestly I could interchange 3 and 6 as well for the points you mentioned.

You don't get it because you turned into an adult.

If I learned anything in this thread, it's who was playing Dungeons and Dragons in their dorm room on Saturday nights...

Not that there's anything wrong with that........

Empire Strikes Back still the best of the lot in my book. My 2 Boys liked Episodes 1-3 the best.....I found the first 2 fairly boring - Episode 3 was ok.

I've only seen the original..... Trailer looked good. Guess I need to catch up a bit....

Is Jar Jar Binks (sp?) the worst character ever in Star Wars?

I liked the trailer. I feel like it will be similar to the new Star Trek films he did- 80% new cast being led along a little bit by the old people.

That being said, I'm conservatively excited for it. I'm really hoping for something fresh. Not just another Death Star. Episode 1 was bad on so many levels, same with 2. 4-6 were ok. As a kid though I lived episode 4. Dogfights especially and this one looks like it has some. I just don't want to be let down again.

episode 3 also had arial combat when Anakin and Obi Wan were fighting in the attack on Coruscant during the start off the movie. It also had a sick ship crash landing when they were "freeing" Palpatine from General Grevious and Count Dooku.

episode 1 and 2 had a little bit of arial combat also (anakin vs droid mother ship in ep 1 and clone troop gunship vs Geonosian bombers in ep 2) iirc.

When Disney bought Lucasfilm, they tossed the extended universe. The only similarity will be the duality that continues. Rey and Kylo Ren are brother and sister.

Well yeah probably. But I'm a movie guy. I'm a SF guy. I just find the SW movies on the whole just crappy. Never has so much money made on such a crappy product.

Disney has already announced that all books written about the time after Episode VI are NOT official canon. so those stories essentially did not happen.

(oops just read the al said the same thing earlier in the thread--sorry al!)

I actually picked up tickets to opening night, while half-heartedly watching the end of the Giants debacle last night.

Pretty much this. So hyped up by reading my precious Bantha Tracks, that I was pretty much a raving lunatic by time those AT-AT Walkers were spotted in the binoculars.
