Steve Pikiell on Sirius Mad Dog Radio

I have always respected Steve Pikiell as a head coach. He was on Mad Dog Radio for well over an hour and gave an in depth breakdown on all of the brackets. This guy really seems to have some great qualities. Not only is he very articulate and conversational , his immense knowledge of each of these 68 teams was truly impressive. This was probably the best and most informative analysis of the tournament that I have ever heard. Also, this was a perfect commercial for Rutgers in that his enthusiasm for the school and the Big Ten was perfectly presented.

You mean he didn't announce he was leaving for UConn? I agree with you. He knows his stuff. Also, every time he speaks he sounds as if he really likes it here. He is in the BIG. Seems like wants to stay to me.

I would be shocked if he were even slightly considering leaving. He was super positive about Rutgers and also very complimentary of Hobbs.

I had a chance to listen to most of the show - Coach P was his usual engaging self - he really has an excellent sense of humor and knew each teams strengths and weaknesses. He took Purdue all the way to the NCAA Championship in his game by game breakdown. We played Purdue 3 times and Coach said we tried a different way to stop them each time but they have answers no matter which way you try. As we all are, so glad that Coach P is our HC. At the end Dog says...."now go find the next Magic Johnson"......Pike says.."we're looking".....they both laughed really loud.....lol.......was very funny how Pike said it :grimace:

I would take it with a grain of salt. Two years ago after stony brook got blasted in the NCAA tournament he was on wfan and was asked what team really impressed him . Pike went on to sing the praises of Indiana. Well, Indiana got knocked out in the next round. Even the so called experts have a tough time predicting this tournament .

Pike did a good job and Russo was thrilled that he made the effort to be in studio instead of on the phone. Lots of good back and forth between them and some nice PR for RU Basketball.

That was a great interview. He's so upbeat and has the personality of a coach you want to play for.

Russo needs to drink decaf coffee. He never changes. Talks so fast he drives me crazy. Typically Coach Pikiell is a slower talker and Chris has him going 95 mph. Of course, Russo is going 120! Great stuff though!
