I know the haters will come out. But Greg is the best fit for NJ. You need some edge and some ego to do this job. I think in his mind he can compete with Urban and Harbaugh. He is the guy I want.

There was no football experience on the banks till GS did his thing.

Could not agree more!

Schiano has proven abilities, beat several top 10 teams at RU. Has Pro experience which gave him additional knowledge.

He can also recruit with the best of them.

I agree. Warming up to Ash. Open to Cristobal. Do not want Golden.

I actually think his time in the NFL will hurt him with recruiting. He was universally disliked very publicly by both players and coaches because of his controlling ways. He is only a google search away for any potential recruit to find this out. Not saying he wouldn't still be a good fit here, but I think he is definitely tarnished from when he left.

Agree. Say what you want, but every poll has Schiano as the overwhelming pick by the RU fans.

I don't "hate" Greg Schiano, but he is -- absolutely -- not the "best fit for NJ."

he was my choice.
yes, the bucs fans didn't like him but the fact is he WAS an NFL coach. he knows the game at that level.
he has a track record of having quite a few of his players in the NFL when we were in the BE.
not many can say that. you think kids will not listen? that's a huge factor. kids parents will like him. just look at how he took care of LeGrand.

however, i have cooled on him after his putting RU as his backup option. he is still better than MC. and miles better than that joke Golden.

OK, lets stop rewriting history.

Greg Beat one top ten team and the other you are probably referring to, USF, was not even ranked in the AP poll at the end of the year.

After 2006, he had a below average conference record and very bad record against winning teams and BCS teams. We know the record was propped up with cupcakes. Nobody can dispute this.

After 2006, by his own admission, Schiano's failure to recruit Offensive linemen led to bad years, bad offense, and directly led to Savage getting pounded and then into a shell.

Greg did a tremendous thing for Rutgers in building our program, is a good man, cared about the players, and cared about academics. Personally, I liked greg. How he handled the EL situation was extremely admirable. But, making him out to be a super coach is just not fair or accurate.

Having said that, you have to ask yourself. Why isn't Schiano beating down the door to get back? He is talking to everybody, but Rutgers, and now he isn't getting the Miami job he wanted. Now Virginia. We are nowhere near his first choice, and several reports indicate his is not interested in coming back, why?

Reports he wouldn't work for Hermann, check that off.

Maybe he doesn't believe Rutgers is really committed to compete in the BIG 10. Maybe he doesn't believe Barchi is the president he can partner with. Maybe he sees the competition and doesn't believe he can make us competitive. I really don't know, but there has to be a reason.

If there was any mutual interest, this deal could have been done already.

Do you really want Schiano who has Rutgers low on his list? Are you really going to believe it at the press conference when he talks about his dream job, the wall, the state of Rutgers again?

Lets move on.

bringing in greg is a great chance to build tradition, something many believe we lack.
Its a once in a lifetime opportunity to thank a man who really helped our program. If it doesn't work, it doesn't work.. move on. But you have to try.

We need to take care of our own. Schiano is a legendary figure in our program (whether some want to believe it or not) - we need to take care of our legends. Its such a simple thing I can't believe we're even discussing it.

We cannot do better than Schiano. Nobody better is available. He has a ton of contacts here and he knows what it takes to turn this program back around.

Who is the best fit SanFran? I think it's GS but would consider others. Who do you think we can get that's better?
When the wife convinces build her a tennis court next to the house by threatening to leave you if she doesn't, then leaves you anyway, you don't take her back after the next guy divorces her, simply because you think you're not attractive enough for anyone else.

Admittedly, I don't have a great answer to your question, which is why I'm grateful not to be saddled with the hiring responsibility. To be honest, I think Golden and Disco are "Jersey" enough for the job, but I don't know anything about their respective coaching acumen to say whether or not they can win Big Ten ballgames.

Truth be told, I'm just still chafed that Greg kicked the cheerleading banquet out of the Audi Club ...

Can't let emotion make this big a decision SF.

One of the things Schiano was really good at was creating the perception that Rutgers football was bigger and more important that it really was. We could use a little of that as the new guys in the big ten. We can put the swag back in the program.

While they're googling that ... Google our virtual pipeline to the Patriots but what does Bill B know.

Buy back his house and make an offer.

Oh hell, there was a plan to move the presidents house down the road to that land on river road they have up for sale.. check this out

Just go through with it.. move the Presidents house.. hell.. RU Living now owns Zeta Psi.. make that the Presidents House... or the coaches house. Somehow make the Presidents House into the coaches house. Makes so much sense easy walking distance to the stadium.

He isn't interested. You can't make him want a job he doesn't have interest in. Second chances are only great if both sides want it.

If Greg was interested, he would have let it be known. Instead he is interviewing for other jobs.

There's a new president in town and Greg knows his ego and control needs won't fly anymore. Greg needs to look elsewhere to be king again.

Agreed. If this was the kind of match made in heaven some think it is, he should have been up here on Sunday night, on his own dime.

Exactly. It isn't like Schiano has been hiding his interest in coaching again, yet there's been zero movement towards him coming back. It is possible that he assumed he was getting the Miami job (he did reportedly turn down UCF on that assumption) and might be reassessing his options, but to me that's the less likely scenario.

I still think he ends up on an NFL staff in some capacity next season.

Do not want
He achieved all he could here.

Don't you guys remember how sick we were of him before he left?
All the Schiano isms?

Time for something new.
Someone who is hungry for the opportunity - that is why I want Ash.
