Stop with your fantasy about another channel picking up the opener

PAC-12 network is on Comcast but not in HD.

You have to have a sports package however to watch it. Most people dropped that when BTN went to basic.

In other words, we are screwed as most fans will not have access.

Most folks in Warren County have PAC12 Network with their BTN network, 1 station up. I guess I'll be driving 45 minutes west to watch with my brother or my buddy in the Hackettstown Fire Dept.

Someone had a good idea of RU showing the game on their big scoreboard screen at the Stadium.

Nope. Will not be picked up locally:

Asked specifically if any consideration was given to the fact that a large portion of the Rutgers fan base will be shut out of watching the game in their homes, Pac-12 Conference vice president of public affairs Erik Hardenbergh told Gannett New Jersey, "Pac-12 Networks is available nationally on 75 cable, satellite and telco distributors, including the largest cable companies, AT&T and DISH."

Hardenbergh also said it "is not possible with our media agreements" that the game will be picked up on a local broadcast station in New Jersey similar to what typically happens when the Giants or Jets play on NFL Network. Exclusive television rights are a valuable commodity.

Anyone expecting Rutgers or the Big Ten to intervene and make the problem go away is mistaken because hands are tied.

"It's not for us to control," Big Ten senior associate commissioner for television administration Mark Rudner told Gannett New Jersey. "It's a Pac 12-controlled game. They can have the game televised by whichever network partner they have and want. We have no rights to go out and try to sell it or market it."

Also shows the power of B1G and BTN:

The difference is that BTN is available in more than 60 million homes across the United States and Canada on basic cable and another 30 million homes can opt in for an extra fee. All major cable providers carry the channel.

By comparison, the fourth-year Pac-12 Network is in just 12.3 million homes nationwide and disgruntled fans are losing patience even within the six states that make up the conference's footprint.

You can add the sports pack for one month for something like $12

How my friends and I will enjoy the game

Who scheduled this game? Was it Pernetti or Julie?

The point being, it's imperative that you understand carriage agreements and coverage footprints before you commit to a scheduled series. If 90% of your local fan base isn't going to be able to watch the game, then DON'T F*CKING SCHEDULE IT.

Show it on the giant screen at HPSS.

Giant Screen ?
You have the wrong stadium. Barely can see the small video screen ( in between all the panels of Advertising) from my seats in Section 124.

Travel to Washington to see the game in person if you can.

I have Dish in my RV. Was going to switch to Direct TV but guess will have to wait until after this game. Nothing like hanging out in the driveway and drinking beers.

Hope this was sarcasm...whoever scheduled it had no clue it would be on pac 12 network.

urgh....

I am sure that someone would post a on-line link to the game by mistake come game day....

Still think its possible...Will pac 12 really say otherwise 3 months before the game?

The whole idea is to get people to call their cable providers and demand the network. If they say otherwise now, people won't be doing that..When it's still unavailable come game week..i think something will be done.

I didn't say they *knew* it would be on the PAC12 network. I said they were obligated to understand all the possibilities. Read better.

Just like last year. Look forward to listening to Chris and Ray

I can read fine. You said, "if 90% of the fan base can't watch the game, don't schedule it".

I ask, how would they know that years ago? Should we cancel the UCLA series..cause there's a very remote possibility it COULD be on a network not widely available?

I guess we should cancel the Buffalo series. The game will possibly be internet exclusive, or worse yet, on the American Sports Network (WTH is that??) Our Miami series can also not be televised and internet exclusive..cancel that?

I have Comcast and the sports package. Party at my house.
In all its SD quality since even Comcast doesn't deem it worthy enough to carry in HD.

This is why I keep advocating for a new giant videoboard over the North entrance. Our current videoboard is only 2,567 sq ft (less of that is used for actual video due to advertising) & is the 47th largest in college. IIRC, it was top 10 when it was installed but now there are others 2x or 3x larger. We should get 1 the size of Arkansas, which is 6,286 sq ft, or Sun Life Stadium, which is 6,717 sq ft.

Yep.

If there's any chance that the burgeoning fan base won't be able to see the game then the game shouldn't be scheduled.

What's the advantage of playing UCLA, if nobody can see the game?

For that matter, what's the advantage of playing Buffalo, period?

I guess I will just take the radio to the beach and disguise the adult beverages as "soft drinks". Just like the old days.

By this logic we should never schedule a series against a Pac12 team. Does that really make sense?

Now if you want to make it part of the contract that the game must be televised in NJ come hell or high water then that is an option. However, not sure if these negotiations work that way.

I'll set up an auxiliary login on my Xfinity account in San Francisco for you that'll give you online access to the Pac-12 if you'll set up one for me in New Jersey that gives me the BTN.

Right now, at the confluence of A) our program's resurgence and increased efforts to build both a local recruiting base and a local following and B) the confusion that is the landscape of sports networks, affiliates, carriage agreements and delivery mechanisms, I see no reason to schedule a PAC12 team if it means there's even the slightest chance we can't get the game to at least 75% of the eyeballs in the metro area.
