Tai Strickland Commits to Wisconsin

Guys

I said this in the fall...and I’ll repeat

I wanted Mac

I wanted Strickland

But there is an undercurrent that people know that the guy the staff wants is mulchay ...REALLY wants and this is an influence to a 2018 PG when Baker is 2017 and mulchay is clear plan A, B, and C for 2019...

Do not under estimate this

Now, maybe the staff needs to be a little bit more key on who they think their plan A players ...maybe not. It worked for Mathis

If it works for Paul mulchay, then we aren’t crying about Mac or Strickland in two years

Risk, reward ...that’s why coaches getpaid the big bucks

No disrespect to Mac or Mulcahy, but they ain't Strickland... Not as good.

Mulcahy is very good. He is rated in the TOP 150 in the class of 2019. Strickland is also good but is not rated in the TOP 150. I have seen Mulcahy play 6 different times and he is very impressive. I just hope now that Corey returns and that he and Geo can man the pg position this coming season. If Corey leaves than we definitely need someone to back up Geo.

Strickland is more athletic, which means something at this level.

I think next year at this point, Mulcahy is the better player.

It'll be another fight.

My opinion:

- Maybe Strickland felt his game and that of Geo are very similar and knew that Geo should and will have the leverage.
- More importantly, I think Wisconsin recruited Strickland sooner and probably harder and hence he felt loyalty towards Wisconsin which if so, I respect. Hopefully that same karma holds for us with Mulcahy.

Regardless, onto Plan B as we're not going to win every recruiting battle.

Without doubt....

And I wanted Strickland

These are opinions, so "without a doubt" does not apply until they go head to head and compete on the court.

I like PG's that are are fast, handle equally as well with both hands and can shoot. I think Strickland is better in those 3 areas. I really like Mulcahy, but, think Strickland can do more with the ball in his hands...again, an opinion.

Good luck to Tai. Too bad he chose elsewhere. But not too hard to see the program will be just fine without him. We’re on an upwards trajectory. One recruiting loss won’t change that. Again, best of luck to him. Next.

Disagree. You need plays line Tai to have the depth to be an NCAA tourney team.

Moreover, if Corey leaves what does that mean for next year? Likely another 3 win big regular season. When does that hurt pikes ability to recruit. Need to strike when iron is hot.

Who we sign in the next two months will determine if we are on a upward trajectory. I don't see it, yet.

Actually...I’ll argue the next 8 months

We have 4 ships to fill for the combo of class of 2018 and 2019

These four players, along with Baker, KIss Doucoure. Mathis, Harper, and Johnson will be the nucleus of coach P’s 5th team...really at a time that, if we haven’t danced yet in year 3 and 4, will really be looking for it.

This is a big offseason for us

And if Mulchay doesn’t come here?

That's 2019. He is not the only PG being targeted in 2019. 2019 commits are about 5-7 months away. We will know more based on who visits in the spring/summer and who the staff follows during the Summer evaluation periods. Isaiah Wong from PA, Dawes from Elizabeth. Both ranked higher than Mulcahy. There should be plenty of options over the summer.

Strickland and Mulcahy are not in same category as player...neither is an explosive leaper or considered a great shooter....but it's hard to imagine that a player that just got his 1st real Power 5 looks about a month ago in Strickland, somehow jumps to being better than Mulcahy who has at last count, almost 10-12 schools offering him a ship.....latest being GA Tech.....

That doesn't mean Strickland won't be a good player but there's literally no advantage he holds at 6'2" without being an explosive athlete, over a 6'5" kid that sees the floor and plays with the same BBIQ...

No one knew who Strickland was 6 weeks ago, suddenly he's a huge loss....plenty of guards have been on the radar for months, Strickland is the first to get a longer look that turned into.a visit.

Yeah, that must have been it.

I'd be very surprised if we get Mulcahy.
Until proven otherwise your comment has merit. The sad reality is that recruits that have power conference offers usually pick a school that has shown prior success versus taking a chance on a rebuild process.

Lots of flawed logic in this comment... Wow

I'm 66 years old and don't understand why the decision of some 18 year old kid from Florida who can dribble and shoot a basketball could have put such a damper on my day. Combined with a stock market that was once up big but ended down about 350 points with a NASDAQ that tanked and Tuesday was one horrible , awful , no good sucky day in Rutgers Nation.

Georgia Tech already beat us out for point guard Jose Alvarado. He played very well as a freshman this past season until he got injured. The team struggled without him.

I also think people underestimate a local kid wanting to go away to school. There is a good and bad to Mulcahy going to so many of our games. After driving many times to games there is nothing new and exciting.......and now add this weather.

Lol, have you ever turned down a 25k gift? I wouldn't!

Yes you might.

1. It could terminate your amateur status
2. It could eventually cause you legal problems
3. You'd live the next 5-10 years worrying about whether the illegal thing you did would be found out

It is very short sighted. Hopefully examples are made out of the kids who illegally accepted the money.

If Mulcahy gets a nova offer, I could see him going there. He has not shown any allegiance to any school.

We will be dissapointed if we put hopes in Mulcahy.

The pressure is on for Pikiell now. I trust he can get a decent player, but hopefully he doesn't gamble too much. The situation with Sanders makes it that much more confusing for Pikiell. It doesn't help him by any means.

I was joking, but yes, you are correct. I wonder if these kids suffer any of these things.
