Targum: No. 16 Rutgers wrestling lineup questions answered following Midlands, ahead of Big Ten opener against Indiana

Yeah had a feeling 184 wasnt completely solved yet..
I suspect Goodale wants to put Walsh there but is struggling with the change. He probably wanted the decision to be clear from the tournament, but doesn't he have the same opportunity with a wrestle-off? Make it a best of three? None of us would want to see Soldano transfer, nor Walsh, for that matter.

I think so too.. think rn Walsh is slightly ahead based on their similar results this season.. think what’s holding the change back is Soldano was a big time recruit and has “seniority” over Walsh… since they both glad similar results this season a wrestle off would probably be the most fair way to settle it.. I have a feeling this roster battle will be ongoing until before conference starts.

Wrestleoffs don’t determine starters anywhere except youth clubs. Goodale has a tough decision to make weekly, but a wrestleoff isn’t going to be the determining factor.

Its going to be a hard call. SCW is more stable and provides what I guess would call more consistency but Soldano has the fireworks and can beat anyone anytime. SCW is probably the safe play for the Long Term.

If u say so. If two guys have very similar results and the decision is razor thin I’d think a wrestle off would factor into something.
It’s one of many data points, yes. But it’s not going to be the determining factor

I never said it was the determining factor.. I said if a decision is too close to call then a wrestle off would probably be the most fair way to do things.

I honestly think a lot of our problems are strength issues. It's not about aggression or attacks. A lot of our guys are just as good as some of the best in the country with technique and aggression. Its that next level of strength that i'm seeing other teams doing better with. I hate to say it, but the penn state, VA Tech, and Iowa guys look so powerful. Whatever they are doing we need to copy. I have seen the workouts that the iowa guys do. I've also seen the workouts that we've done and they cannot compare. Iowa does these heavy lift to failure type exercises.

It’s not just wrestling it’s most sports at Rutgers. Our teams are historically weak, strength wise. And it shows up in our physicality. Basketball is probably the worst with overall strength and growth from year to year. Our athletes get muscled consistently by the competition (wrestling basketball soccer lacrosse etc…) Need a system wide upgrade with S&C.
