Tariq Cole first team LT in spring

If Ash puts together a winning season he'll be a miracle worker. We have had back-to-back-to-back classes in the 50's or higher. The problem is that, while there's some talent on the 1st team, there is a very serious lack of quality depth due to these classes. Yes, you find a "diamond in the rough" here and there but, as Bobby D has said a zillion times, "it's hard to maintain a successful programs with classes filled with "diamonds in the rough" and "hidden gems" and "projects."" Food for thought.

No he will not be a miracle worker if he has a winning season. He will be a very good coach who does a good job and has enough talent on the team to have a winning season. There are no miracle seasons where a coach wins without talent, one game maybe but not a season. A winning season means there was enough talent to get the job done.

We can agree to disagree. We are playing a very, very difficult schedule, we lost all 3 starting LB's, our only stud OL'men, our only stud "playmaker" from last year on O, and are still very, very young at DB. This year is an "experiment year," IMHO, and getting to 7 wins (a "winning" season...not a ".500" season) would be, in MY opinion, nothing short of a miracle. Yes. I said it, again, hope you don't mind. I even think getting to .500 will be very difficult and Ash will received major accolades from the press if he gets us there. [cheers]

Nuts, I am not saying there is or is not talent there, I am not saying we will have a winning season, all I am reacting to is so many posters just assuming there is no talent. You said if we win it's a "miracle". No, IF we win it won't be a miracle it will simply mean that there is more talent on the club than people are willing to admit. Ash isn't a miracle worker he is a coach. Coaches win over the course of a season or career because they have the talent on the team to do so.

...Or because they're much better coaches than their predecessors and know how to use a roster's talent to its fullest. Plenty of HC's have had rosters absolutely loaded with talent and NOT won so I don't necessarily buy this theory. We're also talking about next season - and maybe the following one - not throughout his career. I fully expect Ash to recruit better, for what he wants to do, than Flood did for what he wanted to do and, for those reasons (better recruiting AND coaching) we will become a better program.

Rutgers will have a problem with the offensive line in 2017. We recruited only 1 OL in 2013 Dorian Miller who is a starter in 2016. In 2014, we recruited Cole, Heeman, Applefield, Webb, and Lucy.

So in 2017, Miller, Cole, Heeman, Applefield and Webb will need to be the starters. Lucy and the rest of the 2015 OL recruits will need to be the backup with little to no game playing experience. This sounds like the DB problems with Flood. THis doesn't account for injuries and failures.

Ash will be looking at all JC and fifth year senior willing to transfer ASAP.
Lucy?

Lucy had some great footwork.

Flood was a bad recruiter. Sure he had a few hits in Grant, Martin and Hicks but that's not going to cut it. How is a guy being handed a starting position an indication that our former 4-8 coach did something right? Set the bar higher my goodness.

Cole reshaping reminds me of Mike Fladell- Mike was at least 385 when he signed- he became a very good linemen with a bit of a nsty streak. If Cole can become a Fladell like player then KF can get a nod from me-but that is yet to be seen.

Venesky could be a starter but if you look at the lineup, we have to assume without much playing experience that all of the 2014 and 2015 OL recruits will have to perform well. Usually, there is a 50-60% success story with offensive linemen. The Stars have to be aligned just right for the offensive line to be successful.

Just recruiting 1 offensive linemen in 2013 was insane. There should be 3-5 linemen recruited every year considering the success % for offensive linemen.

How do you know who will or won't have game experience by the time we reach 2017?

Should have taken more than one OL in 2013.

Can we just bury our dead and grant them peace? Flood did not beg for the HC job nor was he prepared or equipped for it but he took it to help the University the team and himself. And us. Why don't you hurl your venom at the 6 or 7 dopes who assaulted students and dealt with drug dealers instead of going to class and learnino the game plan for the next game? I was not a Flood fan but I also know that it was a huge task he accepted one that none of us could succeed at. Give it up already. Now go be perfect c at your jobs. :cop:
