Thanks again Pike. You let a seventeen year old dictate YOUR plans.

We all knew we needed a center. Pike knew it. Everyone on this board knew it. The mods knew it. But because Sommerville was unhappy pike didn’t do it.
Ogbole was improved - somewhat - but if we were to go on any type of a run - as little chance as there was - we needed two healthy centers.
Imagine if we had gotten a competent center in the portal. Whether lathan stayed or went, this season could have turned out much differently. Ogbole could have backed the transfer, which is really his ceiling any way.
I’ll also bet that Latham moves on after this year.
So in the end - again - another Pike screw up. Yet some will defend his mediocrity and mismanagement.
Pike gotta go.

Ewin. But again a mistake by Pike. The center market was going crazy and apparently all we had to do was pony up more money (which we had) but we said no we’ll get another center. We never did and the market went crazy. Ewin looks pretty good, he would have been a bargain.
This was where it went wrong. It would have been a totally different season. Extremely unfortunate

The depth at the 5 has not been the issue this year. Ogbole played well above expectations.

Of course it has. We have had some of the worst interior play on both sides of the court as any team in the country. Our interior D is a turnstyle and we get absolutely crushed on the boards. Argue whatever stat you want to about Ogbole and his contributions in the 15-20 minutes a game he has played. The reality is he averaged less than 8 points and rebounds COMBINED this season. That is a role player at best. The eye test tells you our interior play has been a complete disaster this year. No way it was effectively addressed going into the season nor has anything since then said otherwise

If someone is going to put a post like this, then they should know who Pike could or could not have gotten with NIL money. There were far greater problems for this team than the backup center.

absolutely incorrect. the team doesn’t have a decent starting center. Sommerville has some old man moves around the hoop because he can’t leave his feet. And he can’t defend or rebound because he’s too slow. He’s the serviceable backup, or Ogbole was. We have a gaping hole at the 5.

MSU had three bigs far superior to Lathan today.

What B1G teams have a worse situation at the 5?
Pretty sure no Big 10 teams have a worse situation at the 5 at present.. being that it's only Lathan and Dortch. Just saying, I don't pretend to know who he could have gotten or not or understand the NIL picture for funds for a 5. Could he have gotten a really underrated defensive 5 from a small school for cheap, maybe. But it's probably a crapshoot at that point. Is it worth losing your 4 star recruit over? Maybe, maybe not. You have to play the game as it is now in the NIL world. Players have power.

Ogbole and Sommerville were serviceable and had moments of improvement and being enough to get by. What team has bona-fide stars or strengths for positions 1-5? The real issue to me is the lack of production from the other portal gets and lack of good guard play for most of the year.

Yes,the center position has been a problem but the lack of 3 point scoring from the three transfers has been far more impactful along with Williams disappointing season.

The enitre roster has been a problem unfortunately

Who is overachieving expectations?

Who is meeting expectations?

Let’s just call it six of one and a half dozen of the other. Shelby puts Williams #3 at least for defense. All the rest can’t play any defense at all, can’t rebound on either end, and can’t shoot.

JMike brings nothing at all. Even Hayes brings the small chance of hitting a three. JMike not even a good chance of hitting the rim.

The opinions of anonymous message board posters do not concern me.
You project both qualities, but that's the opinion of an anonymous message board poster.
Your continued posting of vitriolic threads isn't really necessary other than perhaps being the antithesis of the rutgersal on the football board. Attention.

I love Rutgers. I want us to win and I see an impediment to success - Pike. One win in the tourney is what he’s gotten us.

Rutgers record for most stuffs at the rim

You’re supposed to be satisfied with that and know another will be coming in the next decade. Accept below average.
Nobody is satisfied with this season. And I have noted that since 2021-22, Pike's B1G record has been trending in the wrong direction. Considering what is left on his contract, and Rutgers does not have big money for a buyout, and Rutgers does not have a full-time AD and a President on the way out the door, Rutgers is stuck for at least another year, probably two. That's the reality, unless some mega donors pony up the money for a buyout.
Fans can bellyache, cry and whine all they want, but that is not going to change the reality.

Understood. But doesn’t mean he’s beyond criticism. From near sweet 16, to play in loss, to blowing it at Minne and missing the tourney, to awful, to massive disappointment. That’s half a decade. Many of us are tired of the “he brought us back from nothing”. He did that already, many years ago. Then in the same amount of time we’re cellar dwellers again. And folks kept saying, and still do, that each year was just a fluke.

Understood. When Pike was granted his extension ion March 11, 2022, the B1G tourney had not yet begun. Curious timing, but I doubt Rutgers being the way it is (and other middling schools in athletics) that would have changed things. Pikiell was on a decent trajectory at that point, but for now, that was his nadir. But then Rutgers upped the ante in 2023 when Mike Brey announced his retirement from Notre Dame. Like all the other AD Lemmings, Hobbs gave him another extension through the 2030-31 season. That was dumb, but it's done.

A large contingent of Rutgers fans (and particularly donors) suffer from battered fan syndrome. Having sucked so bad in the past, any small modicum of success is rewarded with a ridiculously huge extension, handcuffing Rutgers to a coach even if he/she fails.

We can criticize away, but it is not going to change the fact that he will be here for at least another 2 years.

And it's a little early to call Rutgers "cellar dwellers again." Give it time. Maybe we will be at the cellar ceiling by season end!!
