THE difference in the qb decision question

I am actually hoping for a platoon system at QB to start the season. That is the only way that results on the field will give RU fans an objective opportunity to evaluate what each QB brings to the table.

The first 3 games, Washington, Howard and New Mexico should give us a good idea who should the the starter in the B1G opener in game 4 vs Iowa. Let them decide it on the field.
Exactly what Flood could of and should have done, there would have been no reason
not to. Maybe if the seasons start with Big Ten games it would be different, but
what transpired last year was so wrong, was Flood afraid Rettig would lose to
Howard and such? I say no, he was afraid Rettig would win.
There are people here that think there is a hate feast for Rettig, but it really isn't, we
just know Flood was a victim of his own tunnel vision, short sidedness, stubborness,
and his own death wish.

Coach Ash is a master manipulator. From the beginning, he's set this up for Rettig to be the starter. He know's Laviano was the starter and thus popular with the players so he couldn't just dethrone him suddenly after only a few practices. He also knows Laviano wouldn't have taken it well due his personal immaturity. So coach is bringing him down gradually and giving Rettig a chance to leave no doubt about his superior ability. Coach saw plenty of Laviano last year to know he cannot win with him behind center. He knows Rettig will work his butt off to improve and win the job. He needs Rettig motivated over the summer and through camp to be the best he can possibly be. Think about it for a second... Was there any way Ash was going to name Rettig a starter this Spring regardless of how good he played in practice or scrimmages? There was not.
I believe you just hit the nail on the head.

For those that saw the game, did anyone see the play/action by Rettig in the second quarter. It had me fooled (okay, that all by itself doesn't necessarily mean anything.)

I know we don't have all the tools we need to run this offense the right way . . . YET, but I love that we won't be as incredibly predictable as last year.
