The Football Fieldhouse is needed to improve our chances to get that next level recruit, who can help take us to the promised land. The Quincy Porter type recruit, from Bergen Catholic, who is going to Ohio State, and didn’t give Rutgers a second look. We land the Quincy Porter type recruit, and we will be throwing on third and 7, to Quincy Porter.

Schiano was able to recruit this caliber of recruit at Ohio State and Miami. He is unable to recruit this type of kid to Rutgers because our value proposition isn’t strong enough.

The Basketball practice facility is the best facility money can buy, and this year, we landed two of the best three incoming basketball players. In time, Football will see similar recruiting results, once the Football Fieldhouse is built.

Below is the link to donate to support the building of the fieldhouse. We need to raise $50M to get a shovel in the ground.

For the Quincy Porter type recruit , NIL would matter more

Quincy Porter is going to a place which provides great NIL and great facilities. For a recruit like that, everything matters. And it’s not like we’re in a position to outbid everyone, so we’ve got to be strong across the board.

The Quincy Porter reference is interesting. If your point is the goal is to somehow be OSU - even a Porter-type recruit won't cut it if you go by Rivals ratings. It's a pretty pedestrian year for OSU standards at the WR position - with just two recruits at 5.8 and 5.9 (both from NJ incidentally). Normally they are pulling in 1 if not multiple 5 stars at the position (Smith-Njigba, Egbuka Garrett Wilson etc and that doesn't even include Harrison).

I hope it gets built, but:

"Maryland is the perfect example. Locksley's team moved into a brand-new, $149 million football-only facility, just last year. The Jones-Hill House is beautiful. Unfortunately, it doesn't really matter. The role that it plays in recruiting is minimal in contrast to NIL."

"UNFORTUNATELY, WE MOVED IN AT A TIME WHEN FACILITIES HAVE BEEN DE-EMPHASIZED IN A RECRUIT'S MIND. BECAUSE THEY'D GET DRESSED IN THE TRASH CAN FOR $25,000."

Perfect example of why, it'll be nice and shiny, however it's not going to make a single bit of damn difference. Nobodies coming here for a friggin fieldhouse. It's like looking at a brand-new car and making your decision by what kind of tires it has.

Rivals ratings are BS. The point is to get the best Jersey players possible, first. Porter is arguably the best WR in NJ, yet we had no chance at him.

Every Big 10 program we recruit against has nice facilities. Every program we recruit against also provides strong NIL. We aren’t outbidding anyone for a recruit, so we need to offer recruits facilities which are on par with the competition.

Of course, I’m talking about Ohio State, Penn State, Michigan, and Maryland.

If it was about facilities, Oregon should have multiple titles by now.

It’s important, but not that important.

I’d rather put together a bang-on staff with surplus funds.

Everything is important. Oregons geography puts them at a big disadvantage. Our geography puts us at a big advantage. We haven’t been able to capitalize because we haven’t had the support. Now everything is in place. Facilities are the only component that’s missing.

The staff we have is good enough to do what we need to do. Now it’s time to augment our facilities.

Kids are coming for the experience to be the best they can be.

The facility is very important because players will spend more time there than just about anywhere else, outside their dorm. And it is very important to have a facility that is on par with the competition.

How's it going for Maryland? IIRC, you crowed about their facilities. Rutgers beat them out on 3 of their local recruits. They also just had an OL decommit.

Quincy Porter is not going to Ohio State because we don't have a fieldhouse. He is going to Ohio State because that is what 4 and 5 star recruits do- go to the blue blood programs. He was down to one of Michigan, Alabama, Penn State and Ohio State. Rutgers is not in that group of programs, fieldhouse or not.

Even if Rutgers had the fieldhouse, this would have been the result:

That said, it's a good idea to donate to the fieldhouse fund. It will help with recruiting, but not in getting Quincy Porter type recruits, until Rutgers winds up with some key wins and gets ranked. Hopefully Rutgers can get some creative help from NJ like we got for the performance center.

Have you seen our scoreboard against Maryland the last five years? Come on.

Rutgers portion is ready. It’s the private donations which have to step up.

That was all Taulia, who followed Locks from Maryland.
You are moving the goalposts. How's it going now that they have a shiny new facility? See @dconifer 's post above.

I said it's a good idea to donate.

Yes , facilities are a B1G part of successful recruiting. It is a show point of a highly touted program. The only question remaining then is how long does it take to build this monument and would NJ contribute to this project ? Can our play on the field be sustained over the next 4-5 years. I know Greg wants it very much personally but realistically I can’t see it ready for at minimum 5-6 years from now. Will Schiano even be the HC in say 2030? Maybe becomes our AD? Spending 150 million and up is only doable with large numbers of multiple donors. We have some of those we just don’t have enough at this point. It would be nice to have as many other schools do now. It allows you that competitive recruiting edge. With Schiano in charge it would be a game changer.

In the modern day, College athletics, if you want to be Elite, You need to have both great facilities and a solid NIL program
Bubble is fine and one of the largest indoor practice fields in college football. If you told boosters last year, take your fieldhouse money and buy some WR/TE's and a halfway decent QB then last year looks a helluva lot different.

I’ll agree with Al hear that a Fieldhouse is needed, every Elite program has one and you need to keep up with the Joneses in that sense

A bubble is adequate for a high school program, but for major d1 program in the big teb

This fanbase has shown that NIL means nothing to them and the new field house will mean nothing. If they have to donate to make it happen it’s not important enough. Everything else are just excuses

What should matter and what would matter to me is when Schiano was humming in recruiting the 2006-2007 rosters at one time had 25-29? Players who at least played in the NFL preseason and 18-20 players who played in the NFL

Donor funds can be used for NIL or facilities. Some money can’t be used for NIL like state and university funds. Let those funds pay for facilities. Save the booster donor funds for NIL.

This isn’t an either/or. We need to do both to the best of our ability.

Players come and go. The Fieldhouse will endure for the next 50 years.

Because of our QB crapfest, nonexistent route tree and backward-ass HC/OC. Why on earth would a star WR want to come to RU and be a no-TD decoy ?

the Fieldhouse has nothing at all to do with it. Zero point zero.

GS has done a lot of great things, especially with the culture and this latest recruiting class.
We will never be anything but a developmental program (GS’s words)
Until we run an offense he can’t stop.
GS has us at our absolute best playing against offenses like ours.

According to premium, the Rutgers/NJ contribution has already been secured. Now we need donors to cough up $50M.

1,000 donors giving $10K for 5 years gets it done.

Because just like 2008, we will once again have a potent passing attack. The past four years we were working with severe talent limitations across the board. That won’t be the case this year, as our best WRs will be coming off the bench to get quality reps.

Sort of. He’s worked miracles with the defense but failed miserably with QB play and modern offense. This is the reason top receivers look elsewhere. Obvious.

But you said the field house was the last piece?
He says a lot of things. 99% asinine and the other 1% also asinine. The most intelligent thing ever to come out of his mouth (had he spoken and not typed his thoughts) would be phlegm when he sneezes. Maybe we should feel bad for him in a Manti Te’o sort of way but Shelby isn’t there yet. For now, fun target practice.

He’s our own Quixote, Man of La Mancha, or rather, Man of La Fieldhouse. Or, HeisMann of La Wimsatt.

Facilities DO matter. Perhaps not in a manner they may have 10 years ago, but they do. A recruit with a shot in hell at the NFL still wants to go to a place where his development can be maximized. This is where a higher-end field house and physical development apparatus can distinguish equally capable NIL programs from each other. From that stand point, we are behind peers.
