The growth of Issa

They come in mostly at 18 or 19. Babies with potential. With a good work ethic the continuation of their DNA trail and good coaching some guys and ladies make transformations that defy logic in the speed in which they happen. Isn't that the whole idea? To get better as individuals and as a team?

Thiam's difficulty scoring from three last year was not due to him having difficulty getting his shot off. Shooting from in front and above his forehead now allows for less arm movement in the shot and consequently more touch.
''

Don't agree with this, but i think we can all agree that the new shooting form, a year of S & C, experience and confidence have made Issa a better player. I"m looking forward to the night he hits 6 or 7 threes and can't be stopped!

I believe we now have 3 guards on the floor that can find him in traffic for an open look with Baker, Williams and Sanders....the guards can find him quicker and give him another 1/2 second to catch and launch.....it's not a pure Klay Thompson catch and shoot where it seems the ball actually never touches his hands.....but it's an option to allow him to play at the 3 IF he is willing to rebound and help box out against other front court players....I'm more intrigued with seeing if he can get 4 rebounds a night (if Mike Williams on pure determination/grit/heart can get 5 a game) then Thiam can get 4-5 rebounds too.

I do think we will be better. But I disagree on the "Baker= Nigel with a better attitude". I would say "Baker>Nigel" even with the limited amount of time that I have seen Baker. Baker is one of the most intelligent players on the court, if not the most intelligent player on the court.

Baker is precisely the kind of player we have been missing. He is plenty athletic and talented but more important he has a very high basketball IQ which helps the team function much more effectively when he is on the court. Talent and athleticism can only take you so far in a team sport like basketball, you also need players who can mentally process quickly so they know where to be, have to ability to predict where to move the ball and their bodies in a successful manner. Love Baker's game already and Thiam is looking much improved as well.

Loved seeing Baker back in the shorter defender and shoot the jumper from the line. Great basketball IQ there, recognizing that he had a height advantage and using it, at will.

so...with the improvement of Thiam.....and to a lesser extent Omoruyi......
with the addition of Baker & Doucoure

I see us a shade better than last year

Thiam + Doucoure =Gettys but more athletic
Baker= Nigel with a better attitude
Omoruyi also looks improved
I also base it on the fact that Mike Williams looks improved as well

We were "in" almost every game last year
My hope is we pull out maybe 3-4 more tight ending games...

Anyone agree we might be a tad BETTER than last year?

We all can agree that Sanders, Williams, Omaruyi, Thiam, and Freeman have upped their game since last year, and that Baker and
DeCoure have shown promise. That being said we go only 7 deep as both Sa and Mensah, presumably the 8 and 9, can be left unguarded and
they still won't score. What happens in the thick of the Big Ten schedule if there is an injury to the first seven?

let's enjoy him continue to develop...along with Eugene...and add Kiss, Mathis, Harper and we may (finally) be strong on the wings...add Baker and I'm excited by the potential...

Since last year, what I am enjoying MOST
is the RESPECT we have earned
we are no longer everyones scheduled "bye"
EVERYONE knows we now
