I’m witnessing 1st hand the positive impact that Bob Davie, in his 4th year as Head Coach (same amount of time as Flood) of the UNM Lobos is making. The Lobos were 30 point underdogs to Boise State at Boise last night and the Lobos beat Boise 31-24. When was the last time RU was a 30 point (or thereabouts) underdog and won...especially on the road. It broke the Broncos 18 game home winning streak and was only the 5th loss at home for Boise since 1999. Boise State entered the game an unreal 96-4 in its last 100 home games at home.

UNM is now 6-5 in its last 11 conference games after going 5-41 in the previous 46. UNM also were 14 point underdogs last week to a very good Utah State team and beat the Aggies by 1. Davie has done an incredible job of turning around a doormat program and the Lobos now are officially in the driver's seat for the Mountain West championship game berth. UNM would clinch the Mountain Division title with wins over Colorado State next week and then Air Force to end the season and both games are in Albuquerque which my son and I will attend.

This just goes to show that in his 4th year Davie has done an incredible job turning a perennial loser into a winner and has changed the culture of UNM football the same way my good friend Ray Birmingham changed the culture with UNM baseball, as Lobo baseball stunk before Coach B arrived 9 years ago and they led the nation in batting average in 2014 and have made the NCAA Regionals 4 of the last 5 years. Regarding Lobo Football, granted the MWC is not the B1G, but it is a solid non BCS conference and New Mexico is a horrible state to recruit D1 football players…maybe 2-3 a year come from the state.

Lastly the Lobos use 3 running backs like RU and also utilize 2 qbs (and not in garbage time….what a concept HCKF!

Another example of the impact a good Head Coach can make…Go Lobos!

Umm, losing to 4-6 San Jose State and 5-5 Tulsa is nothing to get excited about. Good win over Boise State. His record at Notre Dame was 35-25. He was fired on December 2, one day after a 24–18 win over Purdue. Davie was replaced by George O'Leary, who in turn resigned in disgrace after it was revealed that his resume contained inaccuracies. Notre Dame then turned to Tyrone Willingham to lead the program.

We could do a lot worse then Bob Davie. The last three years before Davie was hired New Mexico was 1-11, 1-11, and 1-11! He now has them bowl eligible in year four. That's as an impressive job of coaching as any. Guessing he would be affordable. 100% graduation rate at ND. Certainly food for thought.

How about the NJ Devils coach (Hynes). Taken a team expected to be near the bottom of the league, with a roster of forwards that were expected to be well below average, and has somehow boosted the team with confidence, changed the style of play, and (albeit early) has them looking like a completely different team.

It just shows you how Davie’s team is getting better each week (unlike RU). Every aspect of the Lobos game has improved over the course of the season (RU certainly can’t say that) and that’s 100% coaching…which is my point.

Did you see the Boise game? How did Boise have 700 yards but only 24 pts?

Wasn't questioning you sir. Just really curious. Turnovers deep in UNM territory?Critical penalties? Great red zone D? A combination of all 3?
Well, I see 4 turnovers by Boise.

"With the score tied at 17, New Mexico scored two touchdowns in a span of 1:35 to help the Lobos take what turned out to be an insurmountable lead.
Moments after Boise State tied the game on Brett Rypien's 18-yard screen pass to Jeremy McNichols, Apodoca hit Delane Hart-Johnson on an 81-yard pass on second-and-17."

"New Mexico's opportunistic defense yielded 638 yards but forced four turnovers, two of which were in the red zone."

I remember when RU's defense was called swarming and opportunistic. . . . . I need to look in another direction to find some blue sky.

Ok. Not a biggie but I thought it was 683, not 638. Where are my damn glasses?

Thanks for the info.

Lobos D bent but did not break. Boise wore black uni's so there was a contract with the blue field. Blue uni's and blue field are ridiculous and a sick home field disadvantage. Blue smurf turf sucks...

Did not watch. I just don't see the point in Davie, especially after Notre Dame. Uninspiring.

Did better at ND then Strong is doing at Texas or Strong without Teddy Bridgewater. That's uninspiring. I guess I am impressed from the depths of seasons before him of 1-11, 1-11, and 1-11 to a bowl game. To me that's good coaching as well as improving every year.

RU gives up ridiculous amounts of yards and get blown out every time. Lobos give up 638 and beat a 30 point favorite in Boise...coaching, coaching, coaching...

All anyone has to do is point to Houston at how much a coach can change a program in ONE YEAR.

10-0, ranked. Have scored more than 33 points in every game.

Houston went 5-7, 8-5, 8-5 in last 3 years.

I like Hemann too, who has Missouri wrtten all over him, but Houston was already pretty good with consecutive years of 8-5 .
