The leak has been plugged...

Fabulous character actor. Hard to believe he is the same guy:

Stephen Root is one of the best. First noticed him on the TV show NewsRadio - thought he was hilarious and thought the show was very underrated. He was good in Dodgeball, too. Also does the voice of Bill on King of the Hill.

Most interesting thing to me is after the Dunleavy article, Sargeent tweeted this:

I guess everything related to RU athletics but a high placed Athletic department official getting axed is news to the SL. Don't wan't to piss of the next source I guess.

When the next leak comes ( and it will) who will be blamed.

There are leaks all over college athletics, there always will be, but this was exaggerated, for quite some time, and at a whole 'nother level.

because he wanted to be the AD and was passed over.
Well if thats the case his a*hole personality is the very reason he isnt being promoted. Scum. Wonder why he was around the department all these years. NJ politics i guess.

Really stupid title thread. He was not the leak. But we are used to so many threads void of facts

Then how come no one ever said his name, if so much about his level of leakage was know? He sure didn't deserve to be protected all this time.

Ironically, it was "multiple sources" that told the newspaper that Kirschner had been ousted from the committee chairmanship. So maybe other people are the leak. BTW, I know Kirschner and find it hard to believe that he would do something to damage the program.

Don't know what to tell you. He was the main leak and was found out.

He absolutely was NOT the only leak. I'm going to assume the OP knows this and his comment was more general, as in, "that should be it now."

The "main" leak has been plugged. He caused a lot of issues.

Even if he did leak info to the press, so what? This happens everywhere!

Please just admit you work for the Star Ledger and that's why you run to the defense of the paper and its leaks in every single related thread.

RU constantly gets terrible press, has media scandals over the dumbest, most inconsequential things, and is regularly a national joke because of those types of leaks, but yeah, who cares. So long as the Star Ledger has something to write about and keeps the likes of you employed.

It's conceivable that you're right, but his story does *nothing* to confirm what you say. Perhaps people who didn't like Kirschner (who after all, is concerned about academics as a professor and former dean of Rutgers College) made up the accusation that he was a leak. Or maybe he leaked to prevent Rutgers from covering up something adverse, such as emailgate. We just don't know.

I don't work at the Ledger. Haha. Never have.

RU constantly got bad press because RU's athletics department had been run terribly for years.

There's already a change in the perception of RU nationally now that we cleaned up our department. I think you'll see a change in local media as well.

Either way, there's ALWAYS going to be leaks. But with Hobbs in charge and everyone in the department on the same page, lets hope the leaks will be more positive.

Rutgers was attacked by the Star Ledger mercilessly when Mulcahy was trying to improve the FB program.
One article came out implying that the Ledger's crack team ( Josh and Ted) just uncovered a secret deal in Schiano's contract that was being hidden .
What they didn't say was that it wasn't so secret because one of their own reported on that clause in Schiano's contract 6 months to a year earlier.
Another article ( or blog) quoted an anonymous source had reasons to claim stadium expansion wasn't needed . It was found out that source was a poster on the NJ.com forum that went by the name anonymous there.
The Star Ledger back then as they do now makes mountains out of molehills when covering alleged Athletic Department problems and spin the truth into misinformation when it fits their agenda.

Yes RU shoots itself in the foot far too often, but the Star Ledger also makes some things look worse than they are or makes something good into a problem that needs to be fixed.

The RU AD stopped being run terribly years ago. It's not perfect, but most of its recent negative press has been inconsequential nonsense blown way, way out of proportion by an agenda-driven local press. And that's why the University community should care about leaks and be glad they're plugged. To say we shouldn't care about the constant leaks making our alma mater look downright moronic, over and over, is a strange position.

I heard this months ago and I wasn't too sure about it. Apparently he wanted to be full time AD
Can you blame him after seeing how bad Fred G. was for so long. Poor guy probably told Fred in 1979 that RU should join the Big East. In his mind that made him qualified to be AD.

Kirchner NOT the leak, I have been told by someone who would know.

Maybe an admin in the football or AD dept who had an issue with Flood.
LOL, then maybe that someone is the leak that told you Kirchner wasn't the leak, lol. And on and on we go.

Don't ever believe what a reporter says about a source, they will always protect a source, reporters have gone to jail over refusing to name a source.

I think the leak as been filled because I have not seen a Star Ledger article attached or on line for at least 3-4 weeks. The announcements thru Sports Illustrated were a smart move which also provide national attention.

Something had to be up with him, Barchi's quote about not having somebody internal with the skill set to act as an interim ad was telling, when Kirchner has served in that position before hand.

Kirschner was acting AD, and only for a short length of time. I can't imagine why he'd want to be AD. (Of course, Ican't imagine why Hobbs wants to be an AD either!)

Thought this was a brilliant move by the Athletic Dept. when the Ash staff hirings were released through SI instead of SL. Increase in national attention and SL doesn't get the first scoop. Exactly how it should be.

And maybe he could have been "a leak" but not the big leak. It appears that on various occasions there were several leaks whether intentional or not. Some folks may not know when to keep things to themselves rather than blurb them with a net negative result. We often see it here.

because he wanted to be the AD and was passed over.
Now that Julie is gone- I can say what I was told- there was someone inside the Athletic Department who was leaking information and she was worried about how to deal with it since the person had tenure- and if they went after "HIM" it would be another scandal she would have to deal with. This just after whe told me she missed the alumni dinner on Homecoming when she, Flood and the Rutgers General Counsel were called into a meeting to discuss the process of Rutgers drug testing- IE Lloyd Terry incident.

This. I mean there are leaks in every walk of life where the public might want information that isnt public. I think what made this different was how high up in the chain Kirchner was. I mean its not unexpected that some fourth level admin might blab now and again, but they dont have alot of insight to begin with. But to have a guy who was interim AD and high up be doing so obbviously is much bigger.
