THE OFFICIAL RUTGERS-MIAMI PREDICTION THREAD

Miami is an OK team. They are not the second coming of UCLA (the 60s & 70s). Miami is all about their guards. Still the guards are not superior to ours that we should not show up. I think RU can push them around under the basket if we attack the glass at both ends. They don't match up with us in the front court.

Competitive sports not about records or stats. It's about match ups. When fans understand that, then you'll understand why Rutgers is competitive against Purdue or beats Indiana even though IU has better talent on paper.

Miami doesn't have home court advantage. It's more like a neutral court game
Gonna be a tough game Doug.

Will probably be a tough game and admittedly I have no clue how this one will go... I guess I'm mildly pessimistic mostly because it'll take us a little longer to become full strength.

As others mentioned, they're guard oriented and athletic.. Miami's starters go 6'7", 6'7", 6'5", 6'4", and 6'0".. The only bench player that averages more than 10 min a game is 6'2"... Omier, at 6'7" 250lbs, is their best rebounder at 10.6 rpg and is co-leading scorer at 13.4ppg... Scoring is pretty evenly distributed, with the primary 6 man rotation averaging 13.4, 13.4, 13.3, 13.0, 8.7, and 5.7ppg... So far rebounding on the season has been just about even between Miami and their opponents, but in their loss to Maryland they got crushed on the boards, 39 to 20. Looking forward to seeing how we do.

Rutgers has played no one. The one game they played vs. a team with a pulse, they crapped the bed... and that was in an empty gym, at a neutral site. They are two+ weeks behind most teams in that regard, and now they play a true road game. Caleb is back but he is nowhere near the player he can be and I expect the same from Mulcahy if he plays. The guards are Miami’s strength and I don’t expect Simpson to be up for the task. I’ve seen Miami play twice and I do not think they are a good team at all, but they are more athletic and better than Temple. Should we win? Absolutely. Will we win? Doubtful, but possible.
No clue if we're going to win, since we lost our only game against a decent team, but we at least have Caleb back and sounds like Paul, too - plus, IMO Caleb is just about 100% healthy, based on his suffocating defense on #5, CCSU's best player (he was rusty on offense though).

My only problem with comments like this is that each year we have a different team, so I don't think we know, yet, whether we're going to be good on the road or bad or somewhere in between.
Past failures have mentally harmed a lot of RU fans. You can have the greatest players out there and plenty of RU fans will still say Rutgers will lose on the road.

Why do so many of you have little faith in Rutgers? Please explain why Miami will win.
Right now, I doubt RU can win a road game against a mid level team

Many a year this has been so and the Temple game makes it look like more of the same this year

If this game were home we might win close, away it is probably a 14 pt loss

Later on in the season it would be a different story

I get where you’re coming from, however it’s also possible, this year at least, that the Temple game was an outlier. First game away from the RAC, no Caleb or Paul, new guys still figuring things out, and coming off of 5 days rest, which is too much imo, yet we played very well in the second half and had a chance to win despite being down 15 at halftime.

At Miami, our new guys come in more battle tested, second game away from the RAC, will have Caleb and maybe Paul back. Will still be tough but I think we’ll see a close game either way.

It doesn't fit the "Oh, the Rutgers screw" narrative. 🤣

I too think it will be a close game, but we have as much of a chance of winning as Miami does. I never understood the attitude of defeat. It's better to die on your feet than to live on your knees.

Don’t be too sure we get both guys back tomorrow despite the reports we hear from some sources

Rutgers 70 Miami 62

I said this in another thread Miami is very small and will have trouble with our size. Of their top 6 players their tallest player is 6'7". The only reason why the score will be that high is because of free throws at the end.

Away and not fully healthy.
I have no reason to think we can win if we r not at the R A C.

Providence lost at Miami 74-64. Noteworthy that Providence only beat Rider by 1 point (we beat them by 30 points) and Providence beat Columbia by 14 points (we beat them by 40 points).

While none of this means RU will definitely win, it bodes well for us to at least keep it close with a good chance to win, imo.

I'm not on board with the height advantage meaning that much unless we get a LOT of 2nd chance pts/offensive boards. Cliff has not been good in the low post. Reiber not a guy to take advantage. Woolfolk needs lot of minutes and hit boards hard. Though freshman in early season road games usually not great.

disagree, i don't think Caleb was anywhere near 100% in that game. he actually pulled himself out of the game after his first run, got spooked by his knee i assume or winded. don't see how he will be for Miami either.

even if PM plays he won't be 100% either. too many minutes for an untested freshman point guard on the road is a recipe for disaster.

He said he was winded, which isn't a big surprise. My point is that his knee is good, based on his play, especially his suffocating defense. He was also on the floor for our big runs in each half.

I thought he was moving about 15-20% slower than usual. Would be surprised if he's 100% tonight.

Miami - 72

Rutgers - 65

We are not good on the road, and Paul isn't playing. That Paul injury diving on the floor against Columbia is really going to hurt this team's prospects. Absolute killer.
