The RAC needs to be replaced

I agree with Al for one main reason that I think it is totally pointless to sink any money, which we have an extremely tough time raising to begin with, into cosmetic outside upgrades of the RAC. We should be saving that money for a complete gut job or new arena. I do agree that it is ugly however and visitors are probably confused as to why they are entering a 1970s era JC Penney to see a basketball game.

At some point, the 70s JC Penney look will start to become nostalgic and cool. Unfortunately, we're not there yet and we're at the awkward stage reminiscent of shag carpet, fake wood panelling, Country Squires, and fuzzy dice.

With a practice facility players have 24/7/365 access to get up shots and weight lifting. Practice can be closed, you can have an Elite Camp and keep prying eyes away.

It's also where the basketball offices would be and the video room to help prepare for your next opponent.

If you just practice in your arena, you have to schedule around women's basketball, wrestling, gymnastics, graduation ceremonies (if they are held there). Plus the distraction of people wandering around the building during practice.

And then there's the recruiting aspect because kids are always checking out facilities.

That's just off the top of my head.

you missed the baseball team

Got to get one of those Teslas or 700 series BMW's that blow by me on the highway from time to time. Bet I could get laid a lot more if I had one of those.

oh, that's right. I can't afford one right now. oh well. Maybe I'll just wash my car and work on my driving!

Short answer. Of course who wouldn't want one of those but not now.
Same argument can be made about the basketball program. We expect the team to perform like a Bently by dressing up a Chrysler 300.

They haven't even invested in air conditioning!! You think they're tearing it down to build a new arena for a team that draws 5,000 fans on a good night?

I love the old time feel of the RAC
It is so unique and is DAMN loud when it is packed and rocking.

All you guys who want a cookie cutter arena just don't get it.
Those places are not designed to be loud.
And they are BORING.

PACK THE RAC!!!
College athletics is big business if you are a member of a power conference.Modern arenas with all the amenities is the way you keep up with the competition especially in recruiting. The do nothing approach has resulted in 25 years of futility. Those favoring the status quo really are admitting that Rutgers will always have great difficulty selling out the RAC which is a admission of total failure and the lack of relevance in NJ.

If Duke can play at Cameron, Butler at The Field House, etc, etc, etc., then RUTGERS can sure as hell can play at THE RAC.

Give it a rest people it's NOT happening anytime soon (see: next decade or a lot longer).

What's wrong with the RAC isn't the arena "bowl" itself, but the amenities surrounding it. Locker rooms, concessions, you name it. The actual seating layout gives us a big advantage if we pack the place.

If you really want to build a new arena so badly, build another RAC, slightly smaller, for hockey and start fundraising for men's and women's ice hockey teams. We have other things to do first.
