The Record doesn't like the 25 million tax credit bill...

I think it was their editorial page. It is sad that they feel it necessary to rail against tax credits that Rutgers is paying for. Do you think theyd print apologies if/when ru athletics becomes self sufficient and profitable and victorious? Printing negative opinion pieces about how we will never succeed certainly doesn't help change the perception

Once you get to the Paterson school buildings crap there is no need to keep reading. If they think RU athletics is a black hole then what is that school district? When will they realize money isn't the problem.

Pure pandering to the old guard elitist readership base of The Bergen Record.
Piece is stuffed full of fallacious reasoning and distortions - and amounts to nothing more than 'after the fact' pissing and moaning.

Al Doblin from the Record is a classic pencil necked geek and this is an old song for him. It's a number he sings often. I'm guessing he never objected to any State money going the the Bergen Performing Arts Center.

Lesniak fighting back.

My Response to Press Criticism of $25 mil. State Investment in RU Athlete Facilities Upgrade

To The Record Editorial Board: "Doubtful you saw the attached Econsult economic analysis of Rutgers investment in upgrading its athletic facilities and unlikely it would have changed your opinion. Just want you to know the facts behind the state's $25 mil. tax credit.
Big Ten quality athletic facilities generate revenue to the local economy and the state, donor support, increased applications from students with higher SAT scores, and $3 mil./yr. advertising of Rutgers academics and research."

I called and canceled my subscription. Let them know why too. Doubt they care but I do

It's amazing how few people understand the difference between "spending" and "investing".

When you invest in something, you expect to get that money back plus a profit. Why is it so difficult for these blow-hards to understand that Rutgers, and the state, are not spending money on Rutgers athletics. They're investing in it.

besides the misleading inference made why did they not speak of the $250,000,000 YES that is 250million dollars given to south jersey politicians (Norcross/Sweeny) to give to friends and family. No details of what and where that money is going
This state abounds with CORRUPTION.
And this high moral article did not write a single word on the graft and corruption which tell me they are part of the problem in taking a piece of this enormous rotten pie we call Jersey!

this is not a surprise. Papers will cater to their subscribers. There are probably more subscribers in towns like Patterson or other nearby towns with older schools. Plus they probably have more subscribers that are not Rutgers alums or are passive alums that are not die hard into Rutgers sports.

Why doesn't he write a piece about Xanadu which, I believe, is right in Bergen County.

Why? ... because a certain portion of the "the old guard elitist readership base of The Bergen Record." saw some 'benefit' & had absolutely no problem with that genuine boondoggle & has no interest in hearing about anything critical of that.

I stopped reading their editorial pieces when they wrote a piece praising everything the Bergen Co. Executive did in office (Kathy Donovan)...then out of the blue, concluded to vote for her opponent. It was just bizarre.

I don't read these pieces. They remind me of people I know who spend $50-60k a year sending their kids to school out of state because they think Rutgers is beneath them then bitch about every dime RU spends and how it affects their taxes, how RU should reduce football spending and reinstate Fencing (yup, had that conversation 2 weeks ago), and how colleges should stop athletic scholarships all together.

I stopped reading that rag 20+ years ago. The only thing I miss about it is the local HS sports, and even that was lacking...at best.
