The RU Rah Rah Chant

IMHO, the chant has never been impressive at a football game. Too many people not on the same page. Conversely, when the RAC is packed, the chant can rattle your bones!

it is at its best for a big time basketball game that we have a chance to win..... at football games, it never seems to get loud or
organized enough.

I have known many former band members who care very little about what is going on with Dr. Tim Smith....this is typical of RUTGERS and always has been...if you have an agenda with Smith all these years and he still doesn't listen or at least acknowledge a problem... then you need to develop a plan....if and it's a B1G ( IF ).... you and others truly feel this way then do something about it.

Tim Smith is not a dr. Wtf

Tim Smith was the Pep Band director when the Marching Band Director at the time, Bob Kellerman (I'm pretty sure that's his name) had to step aside in August of either Schiano's first or second year due to health concerns. Sadly he passed away within a couple of years. Because of the timing, Smith slid into the position as they didn't have time to do a search and, just supposition on my part, they thought the former director would be back.

I'm still miffed they're not playing Colonel Rutgers after scores. The Bells Must Ring used to be for inspiring the crowd not played after scores!

I'll reserve comments about Smith for another time and thread.

What I really love is the "stealth" band slipping around the stadium and playing "Happy" - that is so, so crowd inspiring!!! No, really, it is!

I mean it's a tight squeeze in the 500 seats that the 170/180 or so of them take up, so, they're "happy" to get up-and-about, no?

Don't know if you remember but John Madden had us do this back in the 80's - particularly for Giants Stadium games....maybe Tim Smith decided to review some video or something and thought no one would remember so he could take credit for the idea.

I absolutely love how they spread themselves out.

I was actually taught differently, that the sound is better if you are close to each other. Then again, they allow them to be mic'ed to make up for the inability to grow the band, so....

mic'd? lol we still can't hear them in the north end! Regardless, the ONLY bands you ever see "spread out," as such, are small ones attempting to look bigger. All you have to do is go to one of our bowl games, like The Pinstripe, and you'll see bands twice our size (ND and ISU) sitting in the same # of seats yet they remarkably sound 3 times as loud!

Oh, I remember it, and I was part of it in the early/mid 80's. Of course, back then we'd play charges, short little up-tempo bits of "Colonel Rutgers", "Men Of Rutgers", "Bells", "Viva La (Rutgers Sons)", also have a single trumpet player play "First Call" (what's used for horse racing), "Charge", short little rips of music like the "Dudley Do Right" theme, etc.

Yup! All in the execution, right?!
