Whether the Dance is next season or 2021, Steve has put the program back on the map. Recruits have taken notice, something that had to happen before getting them to commit. How long before we can say the same for the football program?

He is the right guy, no doubt. But, damn, I wish our freshmen were sophomores!

And Pike was one of Calhoun's players when he began his coaching at UCONN. Calhoun's first season he went 9-19 before winning the NIT (Easier back then compared to now) the next season and getting to the quarters of the NIT in his 3rd season. What's interesting about the first three years is that UCONN finished 8th, 9th and 7th in the Big East before finishing 1st in his 4th season. There were 9 teams in the BE at the start of Calhoun's career at UCONN in 1986-1987. Pike was the point guard for UCONN beginning in 1987-1988 when they went to the NIT and won it all. That was Calhoun's second year as coach at UCONN.

Then in Pike's 4th season (he was the captain and point guard as a junior) they not only went to the NCAA tournament but got to the Elite 8. And in his senior year UCONN reached the Sweet 16. After he graduated he stayed on as an assistant coach for Calhoun, before moving on to other stays at other schools. So, no the stage is not too big for Pike.

Why would anyone think the stage is too big for Coach? As a player he played in Sweet Sixteen and Elite Eight games. He has coached in an NCAA Tournament game and in NIT games. He is well prepared to lead the Rutgers program.

Russ, already said that above. Please read my post---

I see it now. I only read the OP. Then I lol'd and wrote my post.
Lol, was it really worth a Lol? Check this board at most times this season, and you'd find a thread or two saying that very thing. I thought I was trying to show them he's the answer. Not really a post, worthy of mocking on in my opinion.

I really hope that Pikiell can follow the Calhoun model at Uconn where the recruiting got far better in a short time period.History has shown that previous Rutgers head coaches failed to either recruit or keep top tier recruits from transferring after two years.

I am definitely in the camp that thinks Pike was the right choice for this job. I think he is well respected among his peers and knows what he is doing. Kids seem to have bought in on his vision and it has to pay dividends with recruits.
If I were a NJ kid with aspirations of playing in a top league, Rutgers would look like a damn good choice for opportunity to do so. I would not have said the same thing not so long ago and I still would not look at the football program in the same way.

Perhaps you're much better off staying on the Football board in your safe space mocking the Yankees.
