We have ZERO offensive players on the 2016 All Big Ten team and 1 on the defense team, Darius Hamilton, who is on the 3rd team. That is ONE player out of 69 chosen for the team.
They might have the same amount of talent (who has less), but they have players that can make a play (not necessarily playmakers). Besides our turnovers and critical miscues, we gave up 2 long plays with poor tackling and being out of position. That was a bigger factor than Illinos executing. They only had 10 first downs and missed 2 fgs and had an INT in the red zone. But they got the right play to finish scoring drives. We didn't. On this day, they were better or we weren't as good. Take your pick. It's Illinois dude. They are in the same exact position with just as much talent. They had no problem executing.
We have talent. Ash blows and Drew doesn't understand the game.
Completely empty. Not one playmaker or difference maker on either side of the ball.
Dry as a bone, sadly. Will probably be 8-10 years before we can even consider being competitive with the big boys in this conference.
Actually compared to 1/2 of the conference teams we have played this year.We have talent. Compared to the Patriot League teams many of our players were recruited by. For a different system nonetheless.
Someone posted the number of other BCS offers our players had. It was a real eye opener.
Michigan and OSU is another issue entirely. Not only do they have resources, history, and prestige on their side, they also have 2 ELITE coaches. As long as those 2 are there, we will have an uphill battle. But if a Hoke comes in? Well we saw Flood "go 1-0" that week.:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:To be competitive with OSU and Michigan on a regular basis it will take longer than that. They simply have so many more resources that closing that gap is going to take years. We went from competing with schools like Syracuse and Yukon those dynastic wealth, as Buffett would call it.

Some one will have to explain why Laviano was picked ahead of Gio, a guy who clearly looks to be a better spread QB. If our talent incompatibility to the system is such an issue, then why Lav over Gio?
