Things are so bad in Arkansas that the picture of the team defense is now on the back of milk cartons.

Things are so bad in Arkansas that even the radio sports talk stations are calling for QB Brandon Allen to be benched, in favor of anyone else.

Things are so bad in Arkansas that Bret Bielima is considering keeping his mouth shut this week.

Thanks for the attempt at helping people see things aren't as bad as they might seem but reason isn't possible on this board right now.

If we win Saturday things will improve. If we lose they will get worse.

Oh how I wish we only had football related problems.

but, but, but, but, but Robb Smith is a genius and our Head Coach in waiting. . .

Not meant to be a slam on Robb in any way, but wondering:

Any pressure on Robb? What's the root problem with the defense? Talent or coaching/schemes/execution?

Well if we lose to Kansas will I get apologies from all those posters who gave me grief about what a bad coach flood is and called me a pos when I didn't sh t my pants with joy because his team came back to beat a very mediocre Maryland last year?

Nah. I prefer to live in the "now". :)

I died after the last one.

FWIW, Arkansas' offense ranks 35th while ours ranks 74th and their defense ranks 45th while ours ranks 90th.

They certainly take their football seriously down there. I heard a call to a sports talk show after Auburn nearly lost to Jacksonville. The Auburn fan sounded like he was having a heart attack. And they won the game. Bielema had better watch out. Kevin Sumlin runs the spread, too.

And all along I thought RU lost the Robb Smith sweepstakes lol.

I think this just reinforces my belief that you need good coaching AND the horses on the field. Just having one or the other doesn't cut it in the long run.

Arkansas was a top 15 Defense last year....they are 45th now and will be around 30 or so, once they get through the shoot-out portion of their schedule....Robb Smith is not Nick Saban, but certainly miles better than anything RU has seen since he left....and please keep in mind, Smith and RU were playing a hobbled Teddy Bridgewater at Louisville, Pitt, UConn, USF, Cuse along with Dri Archer at Kent State (they struggled with that spread back then) and Temple without any weapons of note on offense. Not exactly murderers Row.....Playing Texas Tech, Texas A&M are difficult assignments and they held Toledo under 17 points....scoring 12 points vs Toledo is Arkansas and Bielema's offense and fault, not Robb Smith's fault.....

Things are bad at other places too: Texas, Louisville, Illinois, North Carolina (if the NCAA wakes up), USC (if coach stumbling around and dropping F bombs matter), Colorado (were things have been bad for 20 years) and probably a few more.

ZERO pressure on Robb Smith.......at the moment. We all knew that he lost some major talent to the NFL last year. What we didn't know was that there was no talent backing up those players.

At least Robb Smith keeps his mouth shut

I Fedex'ed a case of duct tape to Bret Bielima earlier this week. I doubt he uses it however.

Absolutely excellent points. We have a new OC in Dan Enos, who was a HC last year. I am not sure why we seem to be prolific in production between the 20's but absolutely fall apart in the Red zone offense.

Even heard one of the long time talking heads on drive time sports radio yesterday calling for QB Brandon Allen to be benched for another QB. I have been saying that for 3 years now. He is a great dude from a great family, he just isn't a D1 QB.

Colorado (were things have been bad for 20 years) and probably a few more.

Ehhh...more like 10. They were pretty good in the early part of the 2000s, before the ugly end of the Barnett era. They finished Top 5 nationally in either 2001 or 2, I believe, and played for the Big XII title in either '04 or '05.

Syracuse would NOT be a sure win right now. They are scoring points with the third string quarterback playing now.

After losing to Univ of Louisiana-Monroe a couple of years back, and now Toledo this year, you cannot count any team as a sure win. Ask Michigan about that as well.

Hey Southern.. any further thoughts on that SEC having 10 of the Top 25 thing?

(not piling on, we have nothing to crow about even if I did want to pile on.. which I don't).

Oh c'mon. You're piling on and we all know it. LOL

You will recall that I said that these things have a way of working themselves out over the course of a season and that NO poll, prior to the end of the 5th week of the season, is worth the ink used to print it.

Was the SEC over-rated? Hell yes, of course. It is all because of the frigging hype give out prior to the season. Occasionally, the SEC deserves the hype, occasionally the Pac 12, B1G, ACC, Big 12 deserve the hype. But none every year.

I thought Arkansas deserved to be ranked 18th IF there was to be a preseason poll based on shutting out LSU and Ole Miss and based on the way we destroyed texass in the bowl game. I have since been proven wrong as have all the other prognosticators who ranked the Hogs that high.

After watching the Rutgers game in person against Norfolk State, and seeing for myself the physicality of Caroo, your O-line, and that man beast of a Defensive end, Hell, I thought Rutgers should be ranked!

Hang on to your hats ladies and gentlemen, this season is going to be wild! remember, I predicted 4 Bama losses this year!

About that SEC preseason ranking thing.. not specific to Arkansas.. I think it is safe to restate that no conference should ever have 10 of the Top 25 slots.

Think about what is required to achieve such a thing. Many of the voters must put 8-9-10 SEC teams into the Top 25, thereby denying those extra slots to consideration of other conferences members. As you said, if you know the preseason rankings are going to be faulty, why not err on the side of spreading around the rankings?

It just shouldn't ever happen. When you get somewhere near a third of a conferences members ranked.. it is time to reconsider other conferences programs. You can say it was all about actually evaluating the teams in question, but I don't think that was possible. In order for the rankings to end up like that, you had to begin by over-valuing the SEC as a whole. Then you had to play games.. like Alabama is probably better than OSU.. the playoffs were a fluke... and thus teams that played Bama tough get boosted.. and so on and so on.

I just hope it wasn't a case of interested parties.. media, coaches etc.. knowing how to play games with ballots to ensure early season games between ranked teams to sell and to make sure X number of SEC teams would be in striking distance of the playoffs at year end.

Worse is not a word I would use should this happen. Kansas is truly bad right now and if we cannot beat them, in our house no less, the fan reaction will be calibrated on the Cricket Scale.
FYP.
