This defense

For those who don't like the fact that last year's defense gave up more yards than any in Rutgers history, you can spend time with the fact that it gave up more yards than 97 other defenses in the country last year.

I'm dumbfounded that comparisons are being made in this thread to the 2006 defense.

Willis, do you have any stats for the 1997 season in terms of yards allowed? I know we only played 11 games that year instead of 13, but I think that year still might take the top spot.
 
I found a site that had all the box scores for 1997, except for the Pitt game. I did find that Pitt set a single game record for passing against us that year with 470 yards (but I can't find out how much they rushed for). So, in 11 games they managed more than 5,205 yards (not including the Pitt rushing yards), for over 473 yards allowed per game.

We gave up more total yards last year with 5,756 (even accounting for the missing rushing yards in 1997), but allowed an average of 442.8 yards per game.
