This Flood email issue really is a litmus test of Barchi's and the BOG' support of FB/MBB/WBB as having a partnership with academics in driving the identity of Rutgers. This email contact is a violation of university policy. The NCAA would not be involved in the investigation unless there are questions regarding lack of institutional control. Again, this is a university-only violation, at this time.
So it is up to Barchi, et al to decide how big of an issue they want to make this- even if there is perception that Flood tried to influence a grade change. They can make this a molehill or a mountain. A censure or a one game suspension would indicate their support for FB/MBB/WBB as a going concern. Anything else would indicate that they want to neuter the role of sports in the identity of Rutgers. Oh and say goodbye to getting big-time coaches to the Banks.
If you don't want sports to tarnish academics at RU, that's fine. If that is Barchi's tack, fine - but he better course correct the direction of academic standing at RU, because it has been moving in the wrong direction for the last 20 years.
