This is what Ray Rice is all about.

Joe Mixon may not play in the NFL. Ray Rice was a model citizen at Rutgers and a model citizen in the NFL except for this one HUGE mistake. Not making excuses but I believe he deserves a second chance.

he may be the only one never to get one. and probably deserved it much more than most. shame.

Rice got the "scandal" treatment. And was covered by the NY media as he was already a known name. Mixon is a relative nobody and his school / environment down there isn't blowing it up in the same way. It's not on Good morning America, the nightly news, or even ESPN (I haven't seen the video played there on TV).

I think a difference that the media is somewhat taking into account, even though they shouldn't, is that Mixon is still considered a kid where Rice was an adult. Stoops is the one really taking the heat now for not cutting ties all together with Mixon after the video went public, as he should be.

In all honesty, we were hearing all the "too much mileage, what's left in the tank" talk about Ray before he ever played a single down in the NFL. Is it really any surprise that with that drumbeat on people's ears from day one that teams were afraid to give him a shot with the added fear of negative publicity?

Listen...Ray was blacked balled by the NFL for two reasons
1. There was video
2. Rodger Goodell totally screwed up the handling of the case.
The are lots of really awful guys playing and have played in the League. Sheldon Richardson, Greg Hardy, Pac man Jones and Dontae Stallworth who are awful human beings. But they still got multiple chances. It's a shame that the League " took a stand" with Ray, while the rest of the maniacs are allowed to run free.

Ray is proving he's not the type of person as many think he is because of his disgusting action in that elevator video, but his career was over once it was shown and the NFL Commissioner was pressured into making his original punishment more severe.
Also most NFL teams don't want to deal with the backlash they will receive for signing him because of Ray Rice's action on that elevator have been made the standard bearer for domestic violence.
That and the fact that being a RB is mainly a young players game and RR was getting up there in years where NFL running backs are concerned

Stallworth actually seems like an ok guy and more in the Rice mold. No arguments on the others though.

Personally I don't care if Rice gets another shot if the league decides it is 'one shot and you are out', but relative to virtually all that got a second and third chance, Rice deserves one more than most.

Regardless of what becomes of his NFL career, I'm glad to see he is doing good with his life.

I think Ray took some bad advice when this all happened... and, of course, he did hit is fiance...and treated her like garbage afterward.

But it was fairly clear that the behavior was alcohol-fueled. That night, alcohol turned him into a monster. He should have approached everything from that angle... swear off the stuff.. publicly go on the wagon. Do that.. for real.. spread the word as to how alcohol can ruin lives just like drugs.. he might have emerged from this as a football player.

Unfortunately for Ray, he became the public face for domestic violence. I don't condone what he did, and clearly neither does he. He made a big mistake, but if anyone has tried to atone for it, it is Ray. Despite it all, I really believe he is a good man who made a big mistake. I hope he gets another shot. But more importantly, I hope he finds peace.
