There is a lot of basketball still to be played, I can't take all this gloom and doom. All of the larger team goals are still out there except winning the B1G regular season. Yes, I get it, nobody expected the record we have right now, but nonetheless, this team will always put arguably the two best players on the floor almost every game going forward. There is no reason why this team can't go on a nice little run right into the tournament. Not saying it is a lock or anything like that, just saying they have the opportunity, so as fans we should support them. We all know nothing makes a Rutgers fan happier than to say I told you so, but wouldn't it be nice to say I told you say on a positive, instead of the norm around here which tends to lean heavily negative.

Come on. There is not a lot to play for. Absent winning the Big10 tourney (EXTREMELY unlikely to say the least) the NCAAs are out

Most we can hope for is an interesting “run” in the Big10 tourney, beyond that is miracle territory at this point

That’s not doom and gloom that’s just 100% reality

The margin of error is very thin but if we get Ace and Dylan’s A games plus a third double digit scorer to be named later we can win any game. Absent that, it’s challenging.

There is some doom and gloom here.

Not people saying the season is effectively over. That part is obviously true barring a miracle as you say.

But people predicting all sorts of death and calamity over future seasons.

The OP in THIS thread is about THIS season

“This season is not over, there is a lot still to play for“

THAT is what i am responding to - ie the actual words written in THIS thread

ie, that is not NOT “doom and gloom” to accept the reality that barring an unprecedented MIRACLE there really is nothing to play for - except maybe the possibility of winning some games in the Big10 tourney

No.

A tomato is a juicy, round fruit, typically red when ripe, that belongs to the nightshade family and is commonly used as a vegetable in cooking; originating in South America, it is packed with nutrients like vitamin C and lycopene, and is often eaten raw in salads or cooked into sauces and dishes.
Key points about tomatoes:
Botanical classification: Though often considered a vegetable, a tomato is technically a fruit.
Origin: Native to the Andes Mountains of South America, primarily Peru.
Nutritional value: Rich source of vitamin C, lycopene (an antioxidant), potassium, and folate.
Culinary uses: Can be eaten raw, used in salads, sauces, soups, and juices.
Interesting fact: Tomatoes were initially grown as ornamental plants in Europe due to concerns about their relation to poisonous plants like nightshade.

At this point, they’re playing to show some fight and pride, and they showed some of that last night after Iowa and Oregon where they did not show fight and pride. Also playing to make the Big 10 tournament, part of pride they’re playing for. I am watching them to see continued fight and beat two beatable teams (games are also loseable), USC and Minnesota, and show grit and pride and show up for the tough road games against Purdue and Michigan. I still watch the games because I am always going to watch RU basketball, but the expectations do not include miracle runs this season, my expectation and hope is for them to show grit and fight and provide us with more entertainment than we might expect. Just play hard.

please lmk if we are slipping back into the "irrational optimism" phase of the season. i'm always good to talk myself into a miracle run. getting harder and harder but can always find a way.

michigan and purdue already beat us...i'm sure they'll take us lightly. ✅✅

usc traveling across the country and we are due for a good one at the rac ✅

minnesota for the five game win streak to end the season in front a maybe the first insane jma crowd of the season ✅

alright i'm in.

^^^ this ^^^ times a thousand.

If we could watch/attend/support games during the Littlepage and Eddie Jordan eras we can do it now. Don't punish the program for your high expectations.

I would love to see 3 wins.. or two and big upset victory.

How great would it be to see the RAC go nuts for the USC game?

Holy shit. A win in OT against a team that we are battling to stay out of the BOTTOM 3 and the OP creates this thread.

We all want RU to win, but wake up man.

Yep. And the funny part is this was what some folks wanted. A team that could routinely drop 80 ppg like Iowa. Well here we are.
If you are Pike do you even bother watching the game tape from a defensive standpoint. There are so many issues and breakdowns I don't know where you even start.

Guys are getting annihilated off the dribble. Switching on screens has been a disaster which is leading to so much miscommunication and open 3s. Our help defense from the 5 has been terrible since Ogbole went down (not that it was great before). We have multiple guys jogging back on D with our star being one of the main culprits.

Time may be better spent on the offensive end!!!

Washington is awful, this is a redux of our 2012 OT win against SHU to cap off another dreadful season
If you listened to the commentators , west coast guys and Don McClean , former UCLA player and pro , they were bad early. Last 5-7 games have been healthy , they have been playing decent and won a few games even on the road at Minnesota , who is also playing much better. They have a center who is a matchup nightmare and 2 wings that can score and hit 3’s and a freshman point guard that can beat guys off the dribble. That is not awful.

That was a high level played game with over 50% shooting by them and almost 50 % by us , until OT.

With the exception of Jeremiah our guard defense is beyond terrible , because as soon as the guard gets beat , rotations start, we leave guys alone to knock down threes or their guard takes it to the hole uncontested. JMike was pathetic last night. Dylan gambled a few times and Jordan in limited time let a guy blow by. This sieve defense hurts because it gets our bigs in foul trouble as Lathan , ACE , and Dylan Grant all get a foul trying to clean up the mess created by the guards. Simple staying in front of our man is not a part of our defense this year and a major cause of the year long defensive struggles. Unless we can get high level offense from Dylan and ACE as well as serious contributions from the supporting cast , our defense will let the other team have a chance to win. Wishing they get better defensively but that is all it is , a wish.

And just think, the guard defense you lambaste is the best part of our defense. The defense from the wing's and big's is even worse.

What if we win out and that includes beating Michigan and Purdue on the road? lol. I honestly think we'd be back in the at large conversation,

It has been the blueprint all year and is why frankly we SUCK
no there have been games where we tried to grind things out...NW, Illinois, UCLA

its not worth the effort right now with zero at large shot and no point in trying to build for the future, this is about right here right now

expect 2 ugly losses vs Michgan and Purdue and two probable exciting wins for USC and Minnesota

Worst defensive team in the Pike era for sure. Ogbole season-ending injury was a huge hit on the defensive end, and he was improving too. We need Harper and Ace to score 45-50 combined to have a chance in any game, that's asking too much to grind through a B1G season and tourney. But I'll keep hoping.

NW was 79-72 in a 65 possession game. We shot 8-14 from 3 20-35 from 2
UCLA YES
Illinois YES

BAC....there were 4 games last year where on an adjusted basis we gave up more than a point per possession

the last 4 games we hve been over 1.00 and 18/27 overALL
