Thoughts after Morgan State

I never said he wasn't an upgrade from Daniels....also I never said they would'nt make a difference..the whole discussion last year was infected with you incessant crying to keep Jordan
Your the whiny one on every one of your threads or your negative slant. Would be glad to review your posts and mine but do not want to bore people. Injuries ravaged Eddie's roster last year and I said so. I said with the team coming back healthy and if Eddie changed his coaching style and demanded defense, closing out on 3's , hiring and then listening to better assistants., the team coming back this year could get close to 500. You said Nigel would unlikely be good or a factor, Deshawn would be a non factor and replacing DANIELS and Grier would unlikely result in anyone meaningful. Well Eddie and Shoes got Issa and Coach Pikiell sealed the deal, brought in CJ, Candido and Eugene to solidly our height , length and depth. Guess what? We have a team that will compete and Coach Pikiell because he is a good college coach has made the demands required that Eddie failed to do and we are in good shape. Don't change what was said or don't insert half the negative bull crap that comes through on every one of your threads. Just enjoy the ride.

And where a ways away from having one of the best backcourt a in the Big 10.
Let's see what Corey, Nigel, and Mike does this year and next year compared to 3 other guards on every other conference team before you sell us down the river . I expect Corey and Nigel to play substantially better the rest of this year and next

and you would be wrong, first off you WANTED Jordan back so lets not revise history, all of my analysis back then was rebuttal to you saying with Jordan back the team would be 500 next year, no it wouldnt. It still might not even with Pikiell who has brought in a few players to add depth which Eddie wasnt bringing it and not to mention Pikiell is making these players better which Jordan wasnt. Never said Freeman or Johnson would not contribute. I did say the jump would not be as great as you said. Listen you were insufferable last year with that stuff so don't try to act all know it all know after you were so wrong about Jordan and what would happen if he was fired.

My response bringing up Jordan was a dig and it was brought up in response to Willis' post about Johnson.

Lets enjoy these players who are doing solid this year but lets not put projections on them that they are better than what we have seen from them thus far. We have not even hit conference play yet and every game except Miami does not give a clear indication of how these guys will perform against good competition. I for one am enjoying the ride with Pikiell without heaping expectations and projections

I wondered if we would match last year's win total. My expectations are greatly exceeded. Basketball is fun again. Let's see how long the fun lasts, but with some better shooting the team will "improve" a lot.

Okay, but no one is putting projections on these kids. We think we can just compete. That is the only thing any Rutgers fan has wanted the last 10 years. That is what I was saying last year. We have a coach and a staff that will allow us to compete even with this roster that is clearly not at the top end of the conference in talent. Plus we have not even put together a great game or even a great full half so I am expecting we are going to get better realizing the competition will also be taking a step up

Willis, It was Eddie who said that Nigel was often our best player in our practices last year. Many members of the Court Club mentioned he was hitting almost all of his 3's. We have not seen that yet this season. Hopefully he will start heating up soon.

we can agree that we are in a better place and the future is promising and these kids are working hard to get better

I'm not selling us down the river. Expecting them to play better doesn't make them a top backcourt. We are a last place team going into this year and you want to say we have one of the best backcourts in the league. Show me on the floor and then I'll say it. I haven't even seen it yet in the first 8 games. By the way despite saying that, I'm thrilled the way we have played thus far. Add the word potential (which can be a killer) to your statement and I agree.

I like pikiel. He is an upgrade over Eddie without a doubt. I wanted to keep Eddie and fire him after this season. Main reason was recruiting. Pikiels success will be determined by the class of 2018. Land a top class and we are on our way. Don't and he probably won't succeed. It really is that simple. The good news is it could not be set up better for us. 7 top 150 kids in NJ and several more in the tie state area. I wanted to hire a stud guy after this season to go after those players. If pikiel can get to 15 wins he should land a top 20 class in18. So things are trending well.

And 27% the year before with more shots. You see what you want to see.

Fair comment, but freshman year is often a kid's worst shooting percentage given the step up in competition. So, I think sophomore year is a better indicator. And, both of those KSU years included top-level Big12 competition - not just a cream puff OOC schedule. So, we both agree Nigel's numbers should improve. How much? Time will tell.

Also, keep in mind our asst coaches Pikiel brought in. You're right, we are set up pretty well. Even if the B1G is rough on us this season, the overall vibe I think will be positive on the recruiting front.
