I highly doubt it.Could be they miss Heathermans intangibles coupled with injury recovery .
Just my opinion.
If a guy is injured or playing injured… the team is compromised, nothing anyone can do about it.
Quality depth is the only answer

Third. Our D backs are playing way too soft and making coverage mistakes.
That's a shame because he was very highly rated coming out of HS.Powell is great at LB but big drop off after him. Walker doesn’t have “it” and not sure he ever will. DJ is serviceable but not great.
DL has talent but underperformed last season and this season so far. If it doesn’t improve, DL coach needs to be gone after this season.
Maybe it's just my opinion, but the current DL are guys Schiano would have recruited for Schiano 1.0, but bigger. The current style and scheme for the DL now is not a great fit for the players seeing time now. The scheme is B1G style with two gap players. Meanwhile, guys like Bailey and Lewis would thrive in the old system because of their quickness being use in slants/two man games, etc.Powell is great at LB but big drop off after him. Maybe but I think you need to have the scheme fit your players not the other way round. Either way it’s on the coaching IMO- not good.Maybe it's just my opinion, but the current DL are guys Schiano would have recruited for Schiano 1.0, but bigger. Agree, and believe that Toure is worth 6-10 points a game by stopping drives. His ability to go East- West to make plays is unbelievable. The biggest factor is losing Mohamed Toure, who was a sure tackler, and the equivalent of an NFL LBer. He had a terrific game vs Miami, and he was key to shutting down their rushing attack. His replacement plays hard, but misses a lot of tackles. To be fair, he also makes a lot of tackles.
This is why we need a Fieldhouse, so that we can consistently recruit higher caliber players who can readily step in. The mostly 3 star players we recruit have a learning curve and need time to acclimate to this level of play. The DJ McClary is the type of instant impact player we needed this year. Unfortunately, he is in next years class.
We should have had two sacks Friday, but our end and LBer could not bring their QB down. We just have to keep getting better.
Points allowed is more important than rushing yards allowed and we are doing great in that category.
Maybe Washington is better than some think
They probably are, but that doesn't excuse the missed tackles or overall sloppiness that we saw during the game. Those plays aren't going to cut it against USC, Nebraska, Wisconsin, etc. which is why I think some of us are concerned.Maybe Washington is better than some think
Paid off and throwing the game? Was at the game Friday night watching Washington march down the field with ease between the 20's. Rutgers among the worst teams in fbs stopping the run and I think yards per play. With Wesley Bailey and Tyreem Powell back, what's going so wrong?
Coaching!!I didn't watch game close yet but statistically Rutgers crashed in rankings.
RUs pass defense was near top ten and now its 36th
Total defense was 68th after 521 yards given up Friday.
The Howard and Akron fairy dust has blown off
Wash had 1 sack and 3 TFLs - RU had zero of both.
I had a bad view on TV but it seemed like RU was "spacious" on defense.
Announcer mentioned "box" was loose and that after one guy misses the field is open.
Looked like RU feared QB more than anything else - gave-up the empty calorie yards.

And they always get"Samoa"of them each yesrListening to Greg, Washington had the guys that scare you getting off the bus.
The old Pac-12 was full of those big, Oceanic players who were quick and doing 37 combine reps on bench
I think Schiano has a vision of what type of player he wants, but the DC calls the game they way he sees it. Also, we are not close to being healthy on the defensive side of the ball. Forced to play a lot of inexperience guys ahead of their time. I don't think posters understand the importance and impact of not having Toure for the season and the walking wounded in Powell, Rainey, and Bailey has on the success of the defense.Coaching?
We had better blitz effectively this week._Nebraska has very tall receeiversNot sure how confusing our D will be - as we have not seemed to blitz much this season or last. We don't bring the pressure like we did in Schiano 1.0 days.
