I thought his play was a mixed bag but with a nice throw to Isaiah Washington but the then interception and a few others but did good running.Obviously he needs to develop but he was literally still in high school beginning of the season…needs to develop but I think the future is bright.

He had trouble with accuracy at the Elite 11 finals. He’s nowhere near a program changer as a passer. Hopefully his threat as a runner will help his passing. Expectations need to be lowered.

A young guy with little experience, playing in a national TV game (and last of the season) was going to try too hard to make something happen. He started holding his breath and chucking the ball (often under pressure). Errors were guaranteed to happen - especially when he wasn't surrounded by NFL prospects you see all around the B1G

Also huge difference throwing to Washington, Jones, and Dremel compared to Bo, AC and Sanders that Vedral had earlier in the year.

I was going to mention the WRs but didn't want to pile on lol. WRs were mostly weak today

Instead of comparing Gavin to Vedral or any other QB on our roster how about we compare him to other 18 year olds who gave up their senior year and played their 1st year at college. Oh wait….that’s right not that easy to do. Give him time. Surround him with better playmakers then what we had out there today and he will be just fine

More important to surround him with a good OL. And there's a chance that might happen

He needs reps, line gave him time. Most young qbs have oc design plays to build them up early. He needs reps, today he pressed and showed his inexperience. He'll be fine

that long run alone showed me a lot about his talent. He was friggin jogging. Next year (hopefully) he runs with confidence and purpose and that’s an easy 6

Am not suggesting he’ll be a bust. I’m suggesting it’s not a good sign that he’s not already better than the least talented D1 qb in the country no matter how green he is.

The bar is very low.

I think too much is made of his young age. With an October birthday he’s not actually young to be in college. I was younger than him as a freshman.

He is light in experience and training, though.

I think he must have done good on his academic work helping the team get the bowl game, so he got rewarded. I don't think he was really ready to play.

Way too early to tell....he looks like a highly touted QB who came from HS to a P5 D1 college team mid season, and is getting some real game time reps for the first time.

Would have been awesome if they let him take 1st team reps in practice all year and vedral just went out there as a 5th year guy and was the starter.

But he just turned 18. That means you were 17 in college? He would be normal 18 year old senior in high school in NJ.

He just needs to get comfortable and with that build up his confidence. When he does those throws that he was pulling the string on today will be free and easy and the results will be far different. A lot to work with there.

Someone with an August birthday would start college right after turning 18 and would be slightly younger than Gavin is currently.

Someone with a birthday in August would be extremely young for their class and would probably be at a disadvantage as well. Imagine that same freshman come in in the middle of the season, has to learn the whole playbook without practicing and plays multiple snaps in a bowl team vs a top 25 team. Probably not fair to expect a whole lot.

I don’t give credence to the high school excuse at this point. Question is, will he better than Vedral by Week 1. He is not better now, which is unsettling in my opinion.

You don’t give credence to the high school excuse? Ummm…ok.

I get it. He’s not as good as Michael Vick, for example, was as a freshman. But then again, Michael Vick finished high school and redshirted for a year. Again, Michael Vick didn’t even play as a freshman.

Naturally, there are examples of very young guys who crushed it as young freshmen, but maturing and maturity actually matter. It’s just a fact.
