As mentioned in an earlier thread today, Thamel released a Coaching Carousel article this morning by breaking down in tiers the quality of each HC opening. While we were listed as a bottom tier opening I think a lot of us would argue that with increasing financial backing through B1G dollars over the next 5-6 years, that the attractiveness of the position should improve. I think Thamel is just another trash Cuse journalist but I had several friends text me the article today asking if I had read it and these people are casual fans. So Thamel's opinion does hold some public weight.

So if we really do have a HC opening after this year, I would like to know if anyone thinks we have a shot at landing an NFL OC as HC. It seems like the only coaches at the college level that would consider us are the Flecks of the world. Thames states in the article that Schiano is not at all interested in R potential opening. Golden is a Schiano clone IMO and just another horrid gameday coach. Pass.

Why not make a run at a guy like Greg Roman, NJ resident, former Harbaugh-Stanford and Niners SB squad OC? Currently sh*tting the bed as Rex's OC in Buffalo so his seat could be warm by season's end. Or how about Pep Hamilton? Another Harbaugh-Stanford transplant. His name was probably hotter in NFL HC circles before the Colts decided to kill their SB chances. Maybe's he off NFL shortlists now. Detroit OC Joe Lombardi was just cut, he has Brees/Saints SB roots and did some nice work, also a VL relative. Maybe Raiders OC Bill Musgrave, who coached at UVA, would be interested.

I just hope we don't embarrass ourselves and only offer sub 3 million for a HC. That's what we were close to paying Schiano with incentives so it's about time we look respectable on the coaching vacancy market. Otherwise we really will be making a huge reach with any coaching hire (MAC or worse).
