So another week goes by and couple undefeated teams have lost. Who's in your top 5 now?

1. OSU (looks more solidly #1 now with JT in the lineup)
2. Baylor (neck injury to their starting qb and will be out for a bit, if there's a team that has rotated through qbs over the years and haven't missed much of a beat on offense this is it, will they be able to do that midseason?)
3. LSU
4. Clemson
5. TCU
6. MSU

Alabama/Stanford in hot pursuit.

It's really kind of interesting to figure out which conference will be left out this year. The PAC12 has a lot of ground to make up but Stanford has been rolling since that Northwestern loss. The ACC lost one of its top contenders in FSU so Clemson has a good shot but if they stumble? Baylor took a big hit with it's qb. Could ND spoil it for 2 if they happen to win out?

I agree so much with your list that I will not even post a separate thread.

I watched the Stanford - Washington game last night and they announcers debated whether or not a one loss PAC team would make the playoff. If Stanford wins out would they get an invite over a one loss SEC team? Or would their WTF game against Northwestern exclude them. I tend to think the PAC loses out here entirely unless we see more two loss SEC teams.

I tend to think it's going to be between the PAC12 and ACC for the conference that gets left out. All PAC12 teams have at least 1 loss now. Clemson is undefeated but FSU lost yesterday so that might take some juice of out of Clemson's schedule. If they go undefeated they're fine but if they lose 1 and are up against a one loss Stanford? Add ND if they win out to the mix and could both PAC12/ACC be threatened. They'd have the close loss against Clemson on the road but would have beaten USC and Stanford.

So it could be 3 groups vying for 1 spot with the ACC champ/PAC12 champ/ND. Of course no one is out of the woods yet and there's even talk of the SEC being left out if Ole Miss wins out but I tend to think that scenario doesn't play out. I think it'll be one of LSU/Alabama/Florida from the SEC. Baylor has lost their qb too but as I said if there's a team that can overcome that it's Brile's with his system. The heart of the B12 schedule is in late November with TCU/OU/Baylor/Ok St playing each other.

Whatever happens I think it'll be fun to see how it all plays out. I've said I haven't seen any dominant teams so far this year, OSU could be stepping up though with JT, so I think this season more than most a lot of it is going to be up for grabs.

I agree with you on this. Undefeated Clemson gets in, but a one loss Clemsen probably not. I don't see Ole Miss winning out either. So the SEC will send one out of the three you mentioned. Unless something strange happens I don't see a one loss PAC team getting in. I am most curious about TCU/Baylor. If one goes undefeated they are in. But what if they both end up with one loss? Unlikely.

Barring an out of the blue WTF game, I think OSU is as close to a lock as there is. They look ready to step it up. But who knows. Lots of games left.

I predict Ohio State probably lose to Michigan, and Ohio State will probably beat Michigan State. That would be an interesting dynamic to leave the B1G out because you would have Michigan beating tOSU, and Michigan lost to Utah and Michigan State having lost to tOSU, who lost to Michigan who lost to Utah. Utah creeps in if they win out, or the PAC 12 champ. If Clemson wins out, they are in for the ACC.

If the above unfolds, I could see the playoff, in no particular order:
Clemson, Baylor (or TCU), LSU (or Alabama), Undefeated Temple (or Memphis).
Shoot me now.

I don't see any G5 getting in unless every other team they're vying against has at least 2 losses and even then I wouldn't be sure. I think they'd need an OOC schedule out of this world, just one game against a P5 team like Ole Miss or ND isn't enough to make up for the conference schedule lacking.

I can see Memphis getting in. They beat Ole Miss, who was #13 at the time. Temple manhandled Penn State, and if Penn State finishes strong, that will be a solid P5 win for them. So the winner of Memphis/Temple has a legitimate shot if undefeated.

Temple would also have ND if by some chance they won. I don't think either of them would get in unless every competitor for the spot had 2 losses and even then I wouldn't be so sure. PSU isn't as good this year and ND is but again I don't think that's enough to overcome the schedule of their conference. To have a real chance, you kind of have to schedule a really tough out of this world OOC IMO.

I hope you are right, because this board will be a miserable place if Temple makes it into the playoffs. We will see endless threads about how we should have taken PJ Walker and Rhule is the world's greatest coach and how we should hire him when we probably would offer less money than he is making at Temple.
