Sarge:
Chris Ash says team is 'probably as healthy of a team as I’ve been around in a while' coming out of training camp

Dunleavy:
Ash will make a decision this week on backup QB but the plan is for Laviano to take every snap, barring calamity

Darius Hamilton is "full-go." Was only limited because of wear and tear in camp. Going to play at least half the snaps.

Ash "There won't be any growing pains. It's all going to go smooth. I won't make any mistakes."

Mehringer talking about Laviano's leadership and play on field. "Tremendously improved." Showed consistency.

Mehringer believes in the "distribution factor." The offense is not QB-centric. Laviano is not only person to make yards, points.

Mehringer says "Hayden Rettig is right in there" in backup QB race despite not being on 2-deep.

Mehringer: Chris feels the pressure from the 3 QBs behind him. They support each other but are not going to sit by idly.

Mehringer asked Justin Goodwin at the end of spring: Are you just a nice guy? He said, "No, I'm a tough player." He's showed it.

Darius Hamilton says he will be same player vs Washington that he was in 2014 Quick Lane Bowl

Well yeah, that's his job.
Except no - it isn't. Lou Holtz knocked his team down every chance he got, while making the opponent the second coming of the 85 Bears.

Ash's job is to win football games. I don't think it's out of bounds to listen to Ash and think we might be a little better than anticipated.

Watching Ash and the coordinators, my initial impression is that Ash and Mehringer are both exhibiting signs of stress, with Ash looking really tired. Niemann seems much more relaxed, which makes sense as he's older and more experienced than the other two.

I think it would be safe to say that that Ash and Mehringer will feel tons better after the kickoff on Saturday. Which seems pretty normal considering both are going to be in their first game in roles with which they have no prior D1 experience.

Pretty sure Ash was making a joke with his comments about how nobody will make any coaching mistakes, how there won't be any growing pains for the staff, and that the staff will be perfect with every play call, etc. But the press corp didn't bite so it came off a bit awkward.

I think the coaching staff will do fine and I'm really excited to see how we play. But it ain't gonna be perfect. Maybe perfection will occur in game two. :)

Get your game face on, men!

Ash "There won't be any growing pains. It's all going to go smooth. I won't make any mistakes." This was snark or a joke? Right? The only coach who never made mistakes was Kyle Flood.

If Darius is "full go" then why is he only planning on playing "half the snaps"?

The health of the team is a huge positive. Let's hope we can stay healthy through a long season. Will be a big factor later in the year, as the more reps our starters can get in the new systems is critical to their growth.

Because DL rotate regularly. And DL are situational. I believe Alabama played 11 last year. Now their depth is unreal. But still 11.

I understand how things work thanks lol...anyway, that's not how I took the comment, IMHO he's saying "Darius will play half the reps that he normally would be in the game for..." Hopefully I'm wrong!

Interesting take. Mehringer seemed confident and pumped. Calls Goodwin "Goody."

Ash looked his usual self, but admitted he felt challenged as everything is new to him.

Niemann should be Professor Niemann.

I agree that they all seem confident. My comments on stress and fatigue were from observing Ash and Mehringer's physical appearance. More Ash than Mehringer.

I think Ash is probably a perfectionist, and is, by his own admission, a detail-obsessed control freak. So he's probably burning the candle at both ends right now. I hope he's budgeted in enough sleep in his schedule.

Didn't mean it to come across rude. I took it as he will play 1/2 the defensive snaps that Rutgers is on the field for.
