Two B1G teams in NCAA Lacrosse Final four !

It would be a lot easier to the eastern division schools to add it for OOC schedule and travel reasons.I would like to see MSU add men's and women's LAX.

Michigan State used to sponsor men's lacrosse from 1970-1996, when it was cut due to Title IX. It then became a Division 1 club sport.

That is counting every team in the league they are in now, regardless of where they won their championships.
Yes - but that doesnt really support your contention on why the Big Ten is so great, if in fact the Big Ten had to expand to claim its co-#1 spot. Clearly anything that the Big Ten is doing now or in the past didnt help PSU and Nebraska rack up championships.

DEARBORN, Mich. -- New facilities for nearly two-thirds of University of Michigan student-athletes took another step forward Thursday (May 21) as the U-M Board of Regents approved the schematic design for the Athletics South Competition and Performance project.

The project will add approximately 280,000 square feet of space for men's and women's track and field, cross country and lacrosse as well as women's rowing.

The facilities also will be available to student-athletes who already practice and compete in that area as well as students who participate in the university's recreational sports programs.

The $168 million project addresses needs identified at the launch of the athletic department's portion of the Victors for Michigan campaign in fall 2013. Funding will be provided entirely by athletic donor resources and gifts, including a $100 million gift from Stephen M. Ross.

A performance and team center will provide specialized spaces for each team and shared resources for all teams. It will include strength and conditioning, athletic medicine, a performance lab, meeting space and locker rooms. It also will allow for consolidation of various team facilities now dispersed across the athletic campus.

The university's first indoor rowing tank will be built as part of the project. New indoor and outdoor track and field facilities that can accommodate 2,000 and 500 spectators, respectively, will allow the university to once again host home track meets as well as regional and national competitions. A 2,000-seat lacrosse stadium will create a home for the university's newest varsity programs.

The project will add 200 parking spaces for athletic needs in addition to the existing 700 commuter parking spots in the area. The commuter parking spaces could be used for event parking during non-peak hours. Bus transportation will continue to be provided to Central Campus.

The architectural firm TMP Architecture designed the project. The regents also approved the project for bid and awarding limited construction contracts for $4.5 million for construction of a facility maintenance building, parking lots and on-site utility work.

The project is expected to create an average of 210 on-site construction jobs and is scheduled for completion in the winter of 2018.

Not sure what you are even arguing Der.

UM's lacrosse facilities are going to be great. That, along with the support their program receives, is why you will see their program take off.

We have had a program for 100 years and they have passed us in support and facilities. We have a lot of work to do.

Of course they have passed us - because most money in P5 athletics comes from FB and BB and they have had a successful football program for 115 years (they were in fact the first public school, and non-northeastern school to win be able to claim a championship.)

We want good other sports, we either have to specialize in them like Hopkins, or we need to get really good at FB and BB to the point where they churn out more money and goodwill than they can feasibly spend.

I thought MSU would also be the 1st to make the move as they have had success at the Club D1 level and have won the MCLA championship or made the tourny since dropping from NCAA D1. I posted an article on here a while back that cant find again from the University paper after the BIG lax league was formed, that basically said their administration will keep looking into joining at a later date, but do not have the $$ now to properly fund it at the NCAA level.
Also the only 2 BIG school that do not have a mens club team at the MCLA level are Northwestern and Wisconsin who dropped out of the MCLA this year to cut costs

MSU used to have a D1 lax program that was disbanded in the mid 90's.

Der- money for the lax program is coming directly from donations, though I am sure their football and hoops helps. That big donor they have gave $100MM for their facility.

Won't get into the argument but one guy donated 100 million towards the project. RU needs money and only 8% of their alum give a hoot.
