UCONN transfer Vance Jackson visiting

Another Sit Out Transfer ?

I think a lot of us were thinking that Pikiell would go for Grad Transfers so that Rutgers retains open spots for the 2018 class. But, you can't turn down former 4 star players who were ranked #80 and shot 40% from 3 point range as a true freshmen.

Was wondering that, too. Unless he's a grad transfer.

No, he was a class of '16 recruit.

I edited my comment to add this................But, you can't turn down former 4 star players who were ranked #80 and shot 40% from 3 point range as a true freshmen.

....Kid was a top 75 type forward recruit in the class of 2016 and (PatrickRU92...pay attention)....got 8 ppg and 4 ppg per game SHOOTING almost 40% from THREE POINT RANGE ...started maybe half of the season for UConn this year as a TRUE frosh...

Like Peter Kiss...3 years to play 3 ...has to sit out 2017-2018

This would be a HUGE get. Like Kiss and Baker another kid with length who can shooting well beyond the the edge of the 3 pt line

Potential double digit scorer...not sure if the kid can bang enough to be a HIGH post FOUR guy...but he is 6'8/6'9"' and if he can play the PF spot...has starting spot staring right in front of his face after Freeman finishes up this season

If this kid can play the four spot...this would be beyond a HUGE get

Doesn't hurt to add d1 guys with experience to blend with what we hope is a good freshman class after losing the experience in Williams and freeman

As someone who was down on the Peter Kiss commitment... this would be huge. The efficient scorer we desperately need.

Just looking at numbers...i don't see it. yes he shot 40% from 3, more to basketball then that.

Why is he transferring?

Found this....

The New Haven Register’s Dave Borges tweeted that Jackson’s father didn’t see eye-to-eye with head coach Kevin Ollie about how his son was being utilized.

Lotta chatter Jackson Sr. was the reason behind the transfer. Would LOVE to get this kid. Just give us a Juco/5th Grad next year and im ready to rock.

Yeah, I saw that, too. He is transferring because that is the Uconn 2016 way, and the program is in clear disarray. I am sure the staff is doing their HW.

That is basically it.

The dad and him probably want a team where he could shine and be a focal point. With Corey on the way out probably after this season. This kid would be our focal point. Baker/Doucoure/Mensah playing point. Could be great for us,

Greene has a valid concern, but I tend to think UConn hasn't recruited role players to mix with the star players like they did under Calhoun....you have to have some glue guys and Ollie accumulated a lot of talent, but this is a player where you would not have to worry about usage at RU....he'll play, get minutes and play at a position where RU typically struggles (The SF position has held the program back for a decade).

The other item I just exchanged texts with a person that sent this to me, is you then allow the staff to focus more on other 2018-19 recruits, if you somehow land Jackson....it's one less player to recruit, one more 2018 ship occupied and gives players like Mathis, one more reason to consider RU even moreso than before.

If you land Jackson, Kiss, as transfers and then find your way with freshman recruits like Doucoure and Mathis, suddenly, the 2018 bridge has been built....you also increase your competition in practice and I think you have more selling points in that Jackson goes to a conference where he will play.

I'd like to think Karl Hobbs has to have some familiarity with the player, since he was at UConn less than a year ago...I'm not saying Hobbs was the lead recruiter, but if he's visiting, that is the signal that we have a chance.

Hobbs was the lead recruiter, as dpwhite noted above.

I think we're in good shape here. :sunglasses:

Previous relationships always seem to play a role in transfers. Huge that hobbs was the lead recruiter for him at UConn. A stud 6'8 SF who can shoot the three? Pleaseeee

Not sure I understand the strategy of going with 11 scholarship players this year, which is the most we could have with 2 sit out transfers. But let's see what happens.

He hasn't signed yet and if he does I obviously really hopes it works out. However......

I am not in love with the way he'd be building the program. I know I am the 1st one that says TOP 150 players that choose RU aren't really TOP 150 players and we need to fish from a different pond. This is a different pond we are fishing in.

The strategy is we need talent and this kid plus kiss are talented. Pikiell has 5 years guaranteed to work with so if he sacrifices a year (we will still see improvement from the guys we have and may have another transfer from a guy like Bullock) it won't be that big a deal if we rebound and we're set up nicely in year 3

I did not watch these tapes....Does he have a tendency to be a "Chucker" ?
His overall percentage is good it's just some if his misses are way off. Uncontested airballs and shots hitting off the side of the rim... But you don't hit 40% from 3 by accident or else maybe we would already have some one on the roster shooting at that clip. That's why I think it's more of a freshman confidence/inexperience issue which means he has the potential to shoot at an even higher rate.

Not sure what you are so concerned about ...you got me lost

Keep in mind when you looked at the roster 8 months ago...before transfers...it looked like we would have very few to give out for class of 2017

1 senior-Gettys
4 juniors-Freeman/Johnson/Williams/sa/
4 sophs-sanders/Laurent/doorson/diallo
3 frosh-thiam/onamuyri/bullock

We only had 2 to give this year no matter what ...so emphasis has been on class of 18
And 19 players building relationships with and docoure is an outstanding start to that.
Mathis would be another

In the mean time ...he signed baker and mensah with the two he knew he had for this year

And has replaced this spring with Johnson/diallo and Laurent so far with kiss as a transfer.

If he gets Jackson as a transfer and another 5th year guy...I think we will say he did a really good job of managing the roster ..adding lonngsr term potential for what transfers out and keeping those valued 2018 and 2019 ships still open

Jackson with three years would be a really good piece here in my book to go with kiss

I had watched the tape earlier and thought the same thing, but I then remembered that video was from his first 11 games only, he must have started to hit more to be a 40% 3 point shooter.

I see what you are saying, but no one is getting 6 years to rebuild this program. Pikiell has to look out for his own career, too. Get the right players to get you to the tournament.

You have to mix and match. A lineup like Baker/Mensah, Kiss/player, Jackson/Thiam, Doucoure/Omoyuri, Doorson/player is something that gets you to that point.

You cannot get out of the #14 spot going with "program builders." If so, you will find yourself without a job in five years. You mix and match. They will do their analysis.

I think he's guaranteed 5 years at the least. I don't think it's much of a stretch to wonder if pikiell will get 6 years to rebuild. This isn't something easily done in 4. He is going to get the new facilities in his fourth year.

5 years of what kind of records and performances?

My friend loves the football program. He said Ash would get at booted in two years if he had the same results as this past year. Two different sports, but I do believe the timelines given are too long.

Nonetheless,15-18 was fun to watch. I would watch 6 more of those seasons. My main point though is that you always mix and match, and you have to make sure you can put a team together that can get you to the 6-8 spots. That is how you keep your job. Jackson would quite possibly further help that cause.

You have to look at the big picture and not just the 2017-18 season.

And maybe if we had Jackson first we might not have taken Kiss.
