My son just sent me a Tweet from Howard Megdal saying that Diamond is entering the transfer portal. Anyone know anything about this?

Has anyone ever heard of Megdal or Jennings ? Strange that there is nothing on Johnson’s own twitter.

Not that this isn’t big news but there are close to 1000 men’s Basketball players in the transfer portal.

Bad news but she’s not a local woman and had to live thru this crazy year.

Sure excuses are acceptable if it makes sense. This one certainly doesn’t and forget this nonsense she’s homesick. Let’s see where she ends up? Maybe she’s quitting WBB.

In our seats for 20+ years.

But if both are true, and if we have no news soon from the program about the future of the program, we are considering asking for our 21-22 seat deposits back.

No Arella. No Diamond. No future.
Rutgers just may get shut out in a game or two next season.

Such a rollercoaster of emotions over the last month for us. Nine game streak; premature exits from postseason tourneys; beautiful, proud moment of recognition for CVS yesterday; only to be faced with potentially devastating news the very next day, of possibly losing the centerpiece to our resurgence plan.

What does this mean?

Isn't Diamond from the Philly area? That's pretty local.
If so, my bad. I know the recruiting class has players from all over. I too have been disappointed in the early exits but have been mollified by her great recruiting of late. I’m not sure why there can’t be a middle ground between pie in the sky and the sky is falling. We have no idea why diamond is leaving. We know stringer seems to draw young women attracted to her legendary and somewhat maternal status. We also know she’s not easy to play for, but most still speak fondly of her. But she isn’t everyone’s cup of tea

I think we are about to see movement like never before, with players looking for the perfect fit. It will work out for some, for others, I think they will end up wishing that they stuck it out through moments of doubt or adversity.

Maori Davenport got a total of 10 late minutes and 2 points in the five post-season games Georgia played.

That’s the normal excuse for coach Stringer used by some. It no longer is sufficient to satisfy our base. She is paid a pretty fair salary and yes longevity and legacy holds value but she has not shown up where it counts and that is in the conference and on the National stage such as the NCAA. Face it this is a business and like any business you should expect performance in the class ( check) but also on the playing field or court ( B-) . How long do we keep her ? I know until she decides to hang ‘em up. Probably 2035. Good Luck WBB fans at RU.

Frustrating not knowing exactly what her reasons are for entering the portal. Having to try to read between the lines, and going off of what we saw this year, I could understand Diamond feeling some frustration, for a couple of reasons. I would just hope that she takes a little more time to make such a big decision. I'm sure the Bueckers, Clark spotlight eats at her. Speculating, but I would think that she feels, as I do, that she is as good as both and just wasn't given the chance to show it.

I am more than willing to buy a map for every coach on staff so they can find their way to The Shore. It is beyond absurd how year after year they won’t or can’t recruit these kids.

i always wondered if it is the staff not recruiting the D1 level players at the Shore, or is it that the players just haven't been interested in playing for CVS. Were the Mabreys, the two Manchester players, Masonious , etc. even interested in playing for CVS.

Wasn’t Diamond put on the AA team for Frosh? I believe she was quite well thought of by the media writers who choose these honors for players who are freshmen.

You are correct on both sides of that discussion. C Viv Stringer has always recruited a specific player type . Remember she is a John Cheney protege’. She recruits D first and that was fine 10-15-25 years ago . It is more an offensive AND defensive game today.

Would Dawn Staley be successful at Rutgers and would she recruit similar players? Not sure her philosophy is Stringer’s way.

If Diamond is indeed deciding to transfer, it should have nothing to do with being given an opportunity to show her skills. She averaged over 17ppg and was named B10 second team. And next year she would have been option 1 (and 2) on offense.

I wasn't leaning one way or the other because I don't know the details. The top players from the Shore can play defense. And CVS has looked to bring in shooters for a long time now. I doubt she wouldn't have been interested in the players I mentioned if they wanted to stay home and play at RU. Destiny Adams! If they did not offer her a scholarship a couple years ago, then yes, that would be a problem regarding our coaching staff.

C Vivian Stringer recruits a different type player . You can see that over time . I have followed her career since she took over for Theresa Grentz . As for the shore girls? How many of the very good Catholic school girls does she and her staff recruit. Even local girls she has had difficulty recruiting and when you realize this then you may understand. Many outside of the Rutgers community itself don’t like the style of play she refuses to change in order to advance the program. You call it like you see it. There comes a time when business is the driver of this B1G machine.

No, she did not make the team.
Well I know she was right there with those others so this is a B1G loss no matter how you wish to perceive it. Time for a change in either her philosophy ( which won’t happen) or the staff she has chosen .

Her last good Jersey recruits were Matee and Essence and they were from urban schools.

One of the things coach Stinger has leaned on is being “ a mother figure and a disciplinarian “ to these women. That works for awhile but in this age of Covid 19 it loses something. This is a problem and not because of the transfer portal. How many of her in transfers left before their time? Quite a deep er the years. And yes ... her system is not for everyone.

I agree with you 100%. That's why I said that I hope she will take some time before making such a big decision. Young people sometimes don't see the bigger picture and will make emotional decisions in the moment that may not be in their best interest.

When I talk of opportunity to showcase her skills, I'm referring to how she and her teammates interacted this season. It was clearly a pecking order with Arella at the top with TMack alongside. Diamond and everyone else deferred to Arella on offense. I was as frustrated watching Arella, with good intentions, forcing offense with Diamond standing on the wing(often open). I was saying to myself for most of this season, that Arella is going to regret that she didn't play off of Diamond more, this season. She appeared to be pressing to live up to the pre-season expectations, All-America, WNBA draft position, BIG 10 POY(after not getting it last year). It would have been easier for her to achieve those things this year if she had leaned on Diamond a little bit more. Diamond is smart, and I'm sure, sensed the same thing.

Another factor that may be involved is,...who is deciding to return as seniors with the extra year. We don't know how these players related with each other over the course of the season. Did Tekia's leadership style rub her wrong?
CVS was vague about some kind of possible problem behind the scene in one of her last post game or pre tourney conferences. She didn't give specifics but it didn't sound good to me. That may or may not have anything to do with Diamond. All we can really do is speculate at this point.

I say, whatever happens, please Diamond, don't go to S. Car, That would be a horrible series of events after yesterday's letter feature.
