Unbelievably classless move by Stanford

Iowa has been throwing every down and just tried an onside kick. If the game was over why didn't Iowa just kick it away? Stanford is just following Iowa's lead.

BS At 38-16 and over three minutes left, Iowa should still play football and give the onside kick a try. When it fails, the game is over. I don't mind Stanford wanting to get the record for McCaffrey (although that was something of a BS move, too), but then the game is over. The team up by 22 with the ball has won, especially when Iowa isn't using it's time outs. To throw a deep pass is a trashy move by Stanford. Expect better from the institution and Shaw. And Musburger's "play ball" comment is typical of front-runner Musburger.

Game's over. Take the knee. Don't pull a trash move on a team that has conceded.

"I didn't think you played it like that, Joe."

"Aw, f*ck you."

That's what it kinda reminded me of.

To me the whole "if you want me to stop scoring stop me" is so amoral--and idiotic when it's obvious that one team can't stop the other and hasn't been able to all game long. Whatever happened to the idea of sportsmanship? I know I was taught that playing sports as a kid. Has it gone out of fashion?

No, Paterno was the one who dropped the bomb.

You can find the exchange on YouTube.
I saw it live, just memory playing tricks, I guess. I thought Joe replied to our displeasure and we closed with "F you Joe."

Maybe Stanford marches to its own drummer. When they played Army the team didn't stay for Army's singing - and they didn't sing with their own fans - didn't even go over to them. Whistle blew - players picked up their stuff and went away. Fans turned and left. About 50 Stanford fans stayed in stands for 30 minutes holding a 15 ft sign that said "Stanford Salutes USMA". Different vibe from most games I saw there.

Strange.

It is a classless move in my mind, that last touchdown, but it's nothing anyone can complain about.

Boo Hoo. This is football, not a liberal game of grab ass where everyone wins a trophy.
I realize its football. I played the game.

You play like hell and it's no holds barred, no quarter given. Until the game is over, and then it's over. Iowa had signalled its concession by not taking time outs. Honourable coaches then take a couple of knees and shake hands. They don't go deep to run up the score. Jerks do. And they are applauded by the immature.

Iowa wasn't calling time out. Take the knee and don't insult your opponent.

+1. Anyone arguing that this wasn't a classless move was not raised properly. A failure to have been taught manners or how to act appropriately. Denigrating your opponent makes you small. A mark of poor education in general. Low class.

It's also true that narcissists and psychopaths simply cannot comprehend why actions of this type are frowned upon. Refraining from an action that would directly benefit them is sneered at and labeled weakness when in fact an act of forebearance can be a mark of character and strength.

Not that it really matters but Graber made the comment about not expecting that from Joe, joe responded "AH BULL****!" and Graber then said "F you, Joe!"

Stanford's band is the focus of a backlash after trolling Iowa farmers in a routine that showed drunken, cow tipping while mocking a farmer dating site. Iowa fans in the stadium booed the band's program. Stanford band director later tweeted "Glad you liked our corn show, Iowa! Couldn't tell, was that booing or mooing?"

I know I will get ripped for this but if you try to embarrass my team by throwing the ball late- I will ensure I wreck your Qb- I will take the 15 yarder and taunt him as he lays on the ground in pain. I might be less inclined if its your 3rd stringer who gets to play a snap in the Rose Bowl but not your starters.

Yeah, I was thinking along these lines. Where's the outrage among the players. I'm not talking about cheap shots, but doesn't it create momentum to hit just a bit harder?

And juveniles displaying that they wouldn't know class if it bit them in the rear. But it's all good vm; when your frontal lobe matures, you'll understand what we're talking about.
right -- because personal insults are so "classy". ****ing "class" is the dumbest shit people talk about on here.

why do you feel the need to whine so much? you don't want them to score, don't let them score. it's more humiliating to me if my opponent is very clearly going easy on me. and yes, i've played this sport (and others) at a relatively high level. ridiculous.

Skillet is a super old, cranky lib, that believes in outcomes based education - everyone is equal, everyone gets a star at the end of the day and nobody is recognized for greatness because it may make others feel bad.

so VM if I am down by 22 with 3 minutes left and my opponet has his starters in against a large number of my back-ups I should stop them any way I can even if I target the starting QB or WR? Or in BB terms- down 22 with 45 seconds left and their star drives the lane to posterize my bench player- I tell him comes down the lane to dunk- knock him on his ass- you ok with that? I might even instruct my kids to say at the LOS- throw deep they taking you off the field on the cart!!!

LOL. so classy!!!!!

love the cognitive dissonance involved in hearing what i said (play to the whistle, stop being a bitch) and taking that to mean "target him and/or knock him on his ass so he leaves on a cart"

i'm a "lib" but i am not old nor am i cranky, nor do i espouse the rest of the garbage in your post. i don't think there is anyone alive, liberal or conservative, that actually does.

what i do espouse: worry about yourself. what the other guy doesn't isn't your business. that goes in sports and in life.

I have been a college coach and a high school coach on both ends of this. In high school I think you stop. You do not throw the ball. This is college football. You score and score until someone stops you or the game ends. You want the scoring to stop? Play better defense.

never did- but If iwas playing and I saw that BS would take my own action to stop it. Late in a blow out game no star is driving the lane to slam home a dunk on the back-ups for the enjoyment of the Top 10 plays- he will end up on his ass- HARD FOUL, throw deep up 3+ scores with your starter in the game I will target him. I just asked if you were the coach would you be ok with that type of reaction- I personally would be.

yeah i heard you loud and clear. you think this is an appropriate strategy, including for children, as opposed to simply being good at the game, which has been deemed "unbelievably classless". good to know.

Stanford coach must be a Randall Cunningham, and Joe Paterno fan. You don't go deep like that. If you don't take a knee, at least run the ball. If you score on a long run, then it's on the defense.

McCaffrey should have won the Hypesman this year. Unfortunately his Karma was just screwed with by that BS TD play call.

Whether accepted or not in college FB, what Stanford did in scoring the last TD is bad sportsmanship. That's just a fact, and if you don't understand that then you probably don't understand the concept in the first place. Maybe sportsmanship is out the window in college football, I don't know, but even in war you take prisoners.

Classless move. Game was over. You run it up the middle or take a knee. If they can't stop the run up the middle too bad. But you do not throw a deep ball. It's the UFC world we live in - keep beating the crap out of the other guy even if he's on his back and unconscious.
