CBS and ESPN yes, but now that it's the big stage I expect some of the less influenced by the NCAA news sources to take these issues (particularly with UNC) to another level.

Thoughts?

In fairness CBC did do an extended piece on the UNC case in the pregame today and Barkley was pretty harsh on UNC and felt they needed to be punished badly . He criticized Emmert's comments too.

But it won't be mentioned in the FF.

Wishful thinking!

Listening to the media ALREADY talking about Syracuse being the greatest thing since sliced cheese when two weeks ago they were bashing Syracuse for not belonging in the tournament is disgusting. Jimmy B, who got cheating, is now a legend.

What cheating ? I know unc cut some corners and offered fake classes , but really who cares ? They do what they have to do to win. Newsflash folks most of these big time basketball players are not academic scholars .
As for boheim , another great coach that wins. That's all that matters.

Epson has an article upright now that discusses it.
By the way, with Nova also in, it's easy to pick a rooting interest.

Ok even if I give you the argument "everyone cheats, what's the big deal" (which I think is nonsense), there is a difference between cheating and not getting caught, and cheating, getting caught, and not getting penalized for it.

I just received a Yahoo sports update about Pat Forde's latest column about "on probation vs under investigation" so it is out there on some level.

Obviously many of us care especially those of us who still believe and value playing by the rules and conducting yourself the right way. It also extends to beyond the athletic department at UNC. If you get a chance watch the documentary The Hunting Ground about female rape on college campuses. Featured prominently is you guessed it............UNC/Chapel Hill.

Fundamental to this whole issue it eh treatment of the issue by the local media. In New Jersey, the issue would be kept alive by the Ledger every day. In Knoxville and Chapel Hill and elsewhere, the agendas of the local media are very different. The fact that Butch Jones isn't fighting for his job every hour given the allegations down there tells us everything we need to know.

Winning trumps everything. If you cheat and still lose, you are dead meat. If you cheat and you win, you are a hero.

My thoughts are

Cuse put itself on self probation>>its public record
recruiting has been limited
they took a putrid 10th in the ACC

and yet they STILL made it to the FINAL FOUR

When you WIN..all is forgiven in the media...they probably will give Cuse and UNC a passing mention about their "struggles"

This morning the LA Times sports section brought up these issues about UNC and Syracuse. The Times to paraphrase said that UNC "has a dark cloud over them over the last five years and Emmert of the NCAA will be coming down with a resolution very shortly." Take that for what it is. And as far as the 'Cuse, they brought up their recent issues and that Boeheim was suspended this year for nine games and they had to vacate 108 games, etc. So, they did not sugarcoat anything.

College basketball is one of the sleazier industries out there . I agree UNC should get sanctioned , but in the scheme of things it doesn't matter . We tune into watch a sporting event , not watch a kid take a history exam .

I think you have college sports confused with pro sports

It is a complete joke. ESPN and the NCAA I believe wanted UNC in the Final Four this year. They got what they wanted. It is deplorable that a school that cheated for so many years still has not been punished. If it was RU we would be splashed all over ESPN every hour on the hour.

Best case now for me is UNC beats Cuse, then OK beats UNC. I wouldn't be satisfied but I hate all the teams in the Final Four but this would be the best option IMO.

Where do you start this year? UNC, Syracuse, Louisville--Pitino nails someone not his wife on a restaurant table, and maybe a year later, one of his assistants is pimping for the players. As my late friend used to say, the NCAA is so angry at Illinois that they added another year to UNLV's probation. The going price for a star used to be 10K a year. Wonder what they make now?

It does matter. A college player has to take and pass his/her course work to stay eligible for college athletics. Let college-age hoops stars play internationally if not interested in meeting academic requirements. NCAA won't lose out on TV$$ if cheating is cleaned-up.

I fully expect to see that, if UNC should win the NC, within a year the official record of the 2016 NCAA men's basketball champion will read "vacated." While that would be a bit satisfying, I would prefer to see the penalties that UNC must pay be far more serious than vacating victories. I would like to see the university have to return all of the funds it has received for college bowls, TV, NCAA tournaments, etc. for all of the sports involved for each season involved. And if some of that funding went to the ACC for what UNC accomplished, the conference should have to return those funds as well. And there should be a total TV ban on UNC affected sports for at least two years (which might lead Dicky V to an early death, though he'll still have Dook to talk about), and that should mean reduced TV income for the ACC to make up for what the networks won't be able to broadcast.

If UNC and the ACC get off without serious financial loss, then the entire process is a frigging joke and no one should bother paying any attention to the rules at all.

At Duke, most of the basketball players major in sociology, and have a very tailored curriculum. You really have to work at it to fail. Would expect easy academic rides at any powerhouse. Kudos to those kids that break away from those classes, and actually pursue academics while playing.

I'd say you're almost guaranteed not to hear anything about UNC or Syracuse's mis-deeds.

Already a USA Today article, Yahoo article and CBS mention of it in their latest article, out there.

Definitely people talking about it...thing is, a lot of media members are graduates of Cuse and UNC..so they're hesitant to bring it up.

Bravo to those who have.

Yeah they take easy as pie as classes with professors that like sports at any major school . They have tutors 'assist' them with work .
NCAA is the joke .
