For the 2nd straight season, and the 3rd time in the last 5, The Academic Frauds will play 2 FCS programs. That is simply stunning (and pathetic):

2016 - James Madison, The Citadel
2015 - NC A&T, Delaware
2012 - Elon, Idaho

Idaho's not really FCS.

I can't for life of me understand the love affair with UNC football. We smash them in a bowl game and Sirius College FBall radio loved them going into the next season.

Man.... the football Gods just hate Rutgers football.

I don't understand all the hate toward unc . So they didn't make their athletes take real classes and passed them through . Big deal . This type of thing happens at many big time programs . If we did the same and got to the rose bowl I am sure the the OP would still throw a bowl party in Pasadena .
NCAA doesn't care what unc did . We don't even play them so we shouldn't either .

James Madison is a damn good football program.
They would give us a real challenge and probably beat us this year.

You are correct however, UNC is a fraud and a sham.

UNC went 11-3 last year and finished ranked at 15. We had a season so bad that our coach got fired. The radio guys weren't exactly wrong. No reason to complain there.

As long as they cover this week I could not care less about UNCs schedule.

With the guys that run both ESPN and the BTN as alums it's not the worst long range career move for a broadcaster to talk up that club.

Agree, with one exception. The NCAA would care if we did it. We'd promptly get the Death Penalty, and they'd take away hoops, LAX, and wrestling scholarships just to make sure we never cheated again.

Didn't ESPN have a story about Idaho going down to FCS this past Saturday? I think it was due to money issues.

Dont worry. Charleston Southern will pay for their sins.

Yes. 30-plus players at Chas Southern have been suspended for Saturday's Florida State game. Their infraction: school bookstore staff told players they should spend all their book money after they purchased their books, so they bought pencils, pens, "electronics," etc., otherwise they would lose those $.

Plum, you are a real peach.

We and every school should care about the UNC case.

UNC MBB played for the NC last year; this year's FB team is highly ranked. To date, UNC not only has not come forward with any self-imposed punishment, they are playing and disrespecting the NCAA and its member institutions. Remember the original NOA was a lengthy indictment of MBB and FB in particular. But UNC worked the system and lawyered up, and, viola, the ANOA is relatively weak, not naming MBB nor FB. Mind you, the version of the ANOA that the public is seeing is the UNC-redacted version. No telling what the unredacted doc really holds, although the LOIC infraction remains.

Further, UNC in its "response" to the ANOA basically said, yeah, we cheated, but it's about academics and therefore not any of the NCAA's business. That's pretty damn audacious. They're basically telling the NCAA and its member institutions, "Go Flock Yourselves." And "Go Heels!"

We'll see what the NCAA COI has to say as it prepares the penalties.

Good post. I also appreciate your updates on this "case" from the news sources down there.

UNC's athletic dept. is run by the Democratic National Party. Surprised the Clinton's didn't go there.

Not a big deal Plum. Just something I noticed last night and found thread-worthy. I mean we have a 2-page thread about in-home temperature for crying out loud.

Au contraire. Msr. Art Pope is all GOP, and is the kingpin behind the Education Foundation (Ram's Club) and the BOT/BOG. Responsible for firing Tom Ross, the former chairman of the UNC system, who was a Dem.

Pope's also the force behind the infamous "Carolina Comeback" in NC state government.

Family money (ironically) comes from dollar stores, thanks to the working class.

Anyway, see: https://www.washingtonpost.com/poli...ce18ec-0d22-11e4-b8e5-d0de80767fc2_story.html

BTW, the current whisper campaign out of the UNC powerbase suggests that the whole AFAM fake class scam was born not out of UNC athletics but out of the UNC BOT. The story is that these fake classes were developed to keep legacy BOT kids from flunking out, a stop-gap measure. Your boy, let's call him "Erskine," is enjoying too much drankin' and such and is on academic probation. Well, "wink wink" sign him up for a phantom AFAM "independent study" or two. And your boy is back in good standing. Athletic staff and athletes then wanted access, too.

Of course, this is a smoke screen. At UNC, the Ram's Club and the BOT/BOG are one-in-the-same. The scam was started by boosters seeking a way to compete against the emergence of Duke's Coach K and even that new feller from NY (RU), Jimmy V. They went all in. It worked.

Or did it?

UNC's athletic dept. is run by the Democratic National Party.
What an ignorant and factually incorrect statement.
Forget the politics, what does any National Party organization care about any one state's university?
Washington Post
Naming of Margaret Spellings as UNC system president called ‘a disturbing new low’
University President was a Bush acolyte and installed by the Republican legislature. They've made the university governance a partisan exercise
News Observer
Emails show conservatives cheered firing of UNC’s Tom Ross
I don't care what your politics are, making a university into a patronage pit (see UMDNJ) is a bad idea.

Well they weren't exactly playing murders row. The best teams they beat were 8-5 Duke, Pitt and Miami. Only two others had winning records 7-6 VTech (in OT) and NC St.. Lost to a 3-9 S. Carolina, played two FCS opponent Delaware and N. Carolina A&T. Played losing teams Illinios, Wake Forest, Georgia Tech, and Virginia.

They were #15 do to a crappy schedule and a weak ACC. Let's face it right now it's FSU and Clemson(which they missed both last year), then just a bunch of basketball schools. It's always been and always will be a weak football conference no matter how much ESPN wants to tout them.

I agree . Poses the question since it's a weak football conference would we have been better off in the ACC ? From a competition standpoint .

We are exactly where we want to be, in the premiere athletic and academic conference in the nation. Our goal is to build the program and compete for the championship.

The ACC is led by former UNC AD John Swofford, who held that position when the fake class scam began. He is dirty. The fact that the ACC allows him to be their commish is all we need to know.
