Updated: Flood Blowouts in the last 2.5 years

stats do not lie. 3 years in a row. I think Flood got too much of pass in 2013 for those awful performances against AAC schools. 3 years of terrible defense, that goes beyond oh they are young or oh they were arrested excuses

More concerning is the 2 wins and 22 losses vs. Winning teams since October 2012.
Flood's record vs. any decent teams is actually horrific.

Terry Shea beat the same amount of winning teams over a much shorter timeframe. His last 2 years at RU.

How can Flood still be coaching at a FBS program ?

28-3
49-7
48-10
56-17
42-24
37-0
45-3
49-14
52-17
41-17

Don't really need dates or teams. Just take some time to soak this in.
One cannot argue with those ugly stats. The other thing many forget, is Schiano left Flood with one of our best defenses ever and a very good offense, and Flood managed to waste that and go 9-4, when we had the talent to win 11 or 12 games, win the BE outright and go to a BCS Bowl. Instead we saw the beginning of his ultra-conservative and stubborn thinking, which led to 4 out of 5 losses at the end, and a DREADFUL showing against an awful VT team, we should have beaten by four TD's. Who can forget us getting the ball midfield with 2+ minutes in the first half, only to basically take a knee. The man is a lifer position coach and that's where he belongs.

we were up 10-0 in that game, in total control the first half but Nova was abysmal and then the whole offense shut down and Flood made it all about the defense trying to hang on...the defense off course had been swarming and excellent but it wasn't fair for them to have to protect just a 10 point lead. It was one of the most god awful coached games of Floods career but this list is lengthy

I think one loss is missing here...the 27-6 drubbing Pitt put on us that could have won the BCS bid for RU except the team nor the coach showed up.

I forgot about that dreadful game. Of course we had to leave it up to the awful officials against Louisville who saw to it we wouldn't win that game. Going back to the VT game, everyone around me including me were yelling to put Dodd in because Nova was not just "bad Nova" that day, he was "Kent State BAD Nova." One of the biggest farces yet when it comes to ANY coaching I've ever seen on any level.

It's bad. Syracuse fans were right...we are B1G fodder. Man it pains me to say that but it's the harsh reality.

Getting in the B1G has completely covered up Flood's 2012 failure. He inherited a team that absolutely should have won the Big East and BCS bid that year and Louisville ended up getting the huge bump in national perception that Rutgers needed.
We didn't have Bridgewater, so I am not saying RU would have won the Sugar Bowl, but I am supremely confident that the 2012 RU defense would have shut down the 2012 Jeff Driskell-led Florida offense and RU would have surprised the odds-makers and viewers by at least making it a close game.

Considering there are 13 games (including bowl game) for the prior 2 years, plus 9 games this year, that's 11 of 35 games that have resulted in a blowout loss. This means that we have gotten blown out in approx. 31% of our games.

Does anyone want to do some research and it would include not only these blowouts but some Rutgers wins as well, as to how many QBs have thrown for a career-high in passing yards against RU...it seems like it is every week and Michigan qb did it yesterday

Thanks for bringing up the 9-4 season and the VT bowl game. I was shocked that Fludd was hired but decided to trust Pernetti and give him the benefit of the doubt. As that season progressed it became clearer and clearer to me that Fludd was not a competent coach, the VT game sealed the deal for me.

Even last season was hard for me to watch, Ive said repeatedly that Floodies put far more stock in the wins we got last season than the blowouts. Based on Fludd's total body of work, you could see where the program was headed. IMO, firing Fludd is a no brainer because the trend he has set will only continue under his watch.

IMHO 27-3 should be on the list as well. We were NEVER in the game and dominated by PSU in all facets.

Not even the bottom of the B1G gets blown out so bad. It's been said a million times, but it really is coaching.

I agree, a lot of the rage and dissapointment coming from fans isn't completely about the losses, it's about the lack of competitiveness. The blowouts haven't come from just elite teams, some pretty average teams have taken us behind the woodshed during Fludd's tenure.

Don't worry now we have some continuity. It's getting better. You just can't see it yet.

7 points (42 point loss)
10 points (38 point loss)
16 points...(33 point loss)

Extension for Flood!!

Looking at the trend ...

We score 25 (+3, 6, 9) And lose by 27 (-4, -5, -6) ... Next game is a 52-25 loss ... We should take the donation money and bet against RU!!!!

The 45-23 manhandling by Kent State on homecoming and the 27-6 no show at Pitt need to be on here

Yeah, I was just limiting it to the last 2.5 years where the team was becoming more and more his. But, yeah, you're right. This history of blowouts is longer and deeper.

Haven't really thought too much about this before, but Flood has pretty much been working on a perennial "pass" for one reason or another.
First year was the abrupt departure of Schiano.
Second year was the entry into the BIG and decreased aspirations.
This year the disastrous ongoing scandals, arrests and injuries.
In many ways, he has been benefiting from the camo of one thing or another while the program swirls the bowl.

So if we continue this "upward" trajectory, we will score 25 and lose by only 27 points. No offensive TDs though - that's not in the playbook apparently.

Does anyone want to do some research and it would include not only these blowouts but some Rutgers wins as well, as to how many QBs have thrown for a career-high in passing yards against RU...it seems like it is every week and Michigan qb did it yesterday

2013 David Carr, Fresno - 456 yards passing, 80 yards off their all time record
2013 Tyler Benz, Eastern Michigan - 335 yards passing, I'm not sure where this ranks on their all time list, the high for them is 409 set in 2014
2013 Arkansas, 3 QBs combined for a poor game
2013 Garret Gilbert, SMU - 484 Yards, 2nd all time in school history. He holds the record at 538 yards vs Temple. His 45 completions vs. RU are a team record as well
2013 Teddy Bridgewater, Louisville - 310 yards, way below their 592 yard record
2013 John O'Korn, Houston - 364 yards, well below David Klingers 700+ yard record. Minimum for their top 10 was 500+ yards
2013 PJ Walker, Temple - 203 yards. Didn't bother to see where that number ranks
2013 Brendon Kay, Cincinnati - 405 yards. 9th on their top 10 list (backups threw for an additional 102 yards). The combined yards rank them 2nd on their top 10 list
2013 Blake Bortles, UCF - 335 yards. I couldn't easily find their record book so I'm not sure where it ranks
2013 Casey Cochran, UConn - 311 yards their media guide is a pain so I'm not sure of the rank
2013 Tommy Rees, Notre Dame - 319 yards. It looks like their all time record is 500+ yards by Joe Theisman.

The missing games in 2013 were low passing totals for the opposing team

2014 Connor Halliday, Washington State - 532 yards 5th on their all time list
2014 Keenan Reynolds, Navy - 231 yards. I couldn't easily find their single game records
2014 Joel Stave, Wisconsin - 81 yards. I just put that in there because I didn't realize their passing total was so low that day
2014 Their passing totals were mediocre however...Tevin Coleman, Indiana - 307 yards rushing which is surprisingly below their all time record of 377 rushing yards

The missing games all had "normal" passing yards in the 200 - 250 yard range. Many of the blowouts had big overall yardage totals (in the 450 - 500+ yard range) but big chunks of that were rushing yards

2015 Luke Falk, Washington State - 478 yards. 11 yards shy of the top 10 all time
2015 Connor Cook, MSU - 357 yards tie for 7th all time
2015 Nate Sudfeld, Indiana - 464 yards good for 2nd all time
2015 Jake Ruddock, Michigan - 337 yards 13th all time on their list. I'm not sure why you said Michigan did it as their record per wikipedia is Devin Gardner in 2013 vs Indiana at over 500 yards passing

None of the defense has been pretty but it seems that the defensive beatdowns we've suffered the past few years are pretty balanced attacks of about 300 passing yards and 100+ rushing yards lol.

2015 300 yards passing and 156 rushing yards per game given up (456 total)
2014 230 yards passing and 212 yards rushing (442 total)
2013 312 yards passing and 100 yards rushing (412 total)

If this wasn't so depressing I would look at where the yardage totals rank on a game by game basis. Overall there have been some huge games but I didn't notice any single game records for passing yards. The records I found were from media guides and team wikipedia pages.

ok cool, so it doesnt look like that many...but i think what i am hearing every week is a career-high in passing yards which is an individual accomplishment not school records, heard it for cook, sudfeld and ruddock ....my mix-up
