Could be Shoes is looking for a long term committment, but thought most assistants were on year to year contracts.
My scenario is Pikiell is looking to keep Shoes if Knight don't accept his offer and Shoes is looking ,but being choosy, while he waits to find out if he'll be retained or go hot and heavy after available positions and not be as choosy where he goes.
I think if Pikeill could do it now, Shoes would be gone.
Shoes is in contention because Pikiell is having trouble getting who he really wants on his staff to accept his offer and probably offered others besides Brandin.
the goal is to get Knight and Shoes in some capacity, this isn't a either or scenario.
Is there a spot for Shoes that he can go on the road and talk to the recruits that RU is targeting or is that only allowed for the HC and assistants to do.
With Rickard coming in as part of Pikiell's support staff ,not as an assistant, how many positions like that are allowed and what kind of recruiting is allowed for that type of help to do off campus?
Not possible. Ncaa rules govern number of coaches. Hc and 3 assistants. Only coaches can recruit off campus.
Isn't that what I said? Pikiell and 3 assistants to recruit, Hobbs, Knight, and Shoes. With Young being a non recruiting coach.
Depends on what you meant by "coach. " Either young or shoes would have to have a title other than coach. And only coaches can actually handle on court - you know coaching. Nobsuch thing as nonvrecruiting coach unless its a grad assistant.
Young would be the replacement of 'The Statue of Mike O'Koren'. He could still coach but can't go out to recruit.
I still dont understand this obsession with shoes but he has zero leverage. He is waiting to see what happens with the rest of the staff. I find it hard to believe that Jay would come on in a non assistant coach role. If knight comes on jay is still an assistant. If not then shoes may have a shot. I believe in any scenario jay will be an assistant. Shoes should just be happy to still have a chance.
Shoes is turning into a real life Sheridan on this board. You would think someone would have come around and plucked him away from Pikiell by now. I hope that this is the week the full staff is announced.
I don't think this is correct. Keady at St. John's. You are correct that only a certain number of guys can go out and recruit, but I believe you can pay advisors. I don't think it would happen though in this case. Shoes and Young will want to be recruiting assistants. It's one or the other.
Keady was cheating at St. Johns. He was at practice and interacting even though that was against the rules. Don't expect to see that in our program. 1 head coach and 3 assistants are allowed on court for practice and the same 4 are allowed on the road recruiting. You can bet everything you own that Young will be an assistant and on the road recruiting.
Now that you bring up Sheridan, has he said if he is staying or going to transfer? Not sure we can survive both he and Sanders leaving.

Knight looking for another job is not the issue. Loose ends are being tied up and it will be a done deal. It's as close to being a done as possible without the actual contract being signed.
We're Rutgers, it's not done until he signs. But can't wait for it to be official!

You gentlemen do realize, I assume, that the NCAA rules prohibited Mike O from interacting with players during games. He could speak with coaches, but not players.
Hope you're right, he's probably getting some good offers and having his agent check them out before committing to accepting RU's offer.
Loose ends being tied up is a good reason for delayed announcement , so I'll not worry too much about
Knight going anywhere else.
Though the Memphis job opening has me thinking that's the reason for the delay , Knight's agent is trying to get Brandin looked on favorably there and trying to gauge if there is interest on Memphis' end.
That's me being a worrywart and nothing I've heard though any rumor-mill.
