USC's Khaliel Rodgers Grad Transfer--from Delaware

Like I stated in my post Flood did offer, but by time we got back into the game the kid had 20 or so offers. Many of them from powerhouses. Schiano is the one who initially showed no interest. He camped with us and left with no offer, then hears nothing from us until Flood offers. Buy this time do you really think Flood had any shot.

Flood had his recruiting and evaluation responsibilities curtailed by Schiano after the disastrous 2010 season. All offers went directly through Schiano, he says no that's it.

You're trying to convince yourself that it was Flood, but anyone with knowledge of the situation know it was Schiano at fault on this one.

But it hurts the narrative that he did nothing right.

I did not take the time to read all of the attached articles but going through the thread it seems as there is one that confirmed it was about Schiano. If I am wrong, my bad...I should know better than to go by what anyone says.
On the other hand...bad as Flood was, he did take some OL that were under 6'5 and Greg had slow played very similar kids even if very good and legacies

You're correct Greg definitely preferred taller lineman. I talked to Coach Ciarrocca about a kid I knew in 2010 who was 6'3" and he told me he knew who he was but he was too short. Schiano also passed on Brandon Vitable in 2010 because of his height, he ended up being a 4 year starter at Northwestern. I think he started to change his philosophy in 2011 when he signed Dallas Hendrickson.

My feelings are Schiano signed 5 O-Lineman in 2012 so was going to take a small O-Line class in 2013. He preferred Dorian Miller over Khaliel Rodgers and any other Lineman he took would need to be able to play Tackle or guard so they would need to be 6'5" or taller.

Greg did the same thing with K Wilkes. On the shorter side, around 6ft3, legacy and he kept slow playing him until he blew up with mult offers and then came back recruiting him.

The situation Flood faced with Rodgers is no different than the one Ash faced with Micah Clark. Clark had no interest in Rutgers before Ash got there. Ash went to the kid's school t see him and then got him on campus for a Junior Day in February. Clark committed 2 months later.

Based on the high school Rodgers chose to attend the chances of Rutgers landing this kid over a football factory were slim even if Schiano had offered early but Ash's success with Clark proves you can make up for the prior coaches mistakes with high profile prospects.

The "Ash" pedigree vs "Flood" pedigree was night and day. Ash is coming from the NC, great defenses, learned from and recommended by Meyer and prior to that he had significant roles at another B1G and an SEC school.

Rutgers also got an early commitment from 4* center Mark Brazinski that year before he decommited and signed with Cal. In hindsight Rutgers should have gone after Wilkes instead of Brazinski from the beginning.

What impresses me the most about Ash has been how he's been able to hold this class together (only 2 decomits) after going 2-10. People forget that Schiano lost 6 kids ( Brazinski Hodges, Jordan Hill, Malcolm Bunche, Desmond Scott, Shawney Kersey) from the 2009 class after starting the '08 season 1-5.

Same year as Wilkes...If you ever get a chance to meet Will, his father, he will have you in stitches about Brazinski and his son.

If you need linemen taller than 6'3, you'll need a QB at 6'7. Doesn't add up. You can't have a 5'10 Olinemen in D1, but anything over 6' will do. The taller you are, the longer your arms to drive DLine away.

Dallas was a panic pickup. Our Oline was brutal then and we didn't have a bench.

At the end of the day, you need a find a HS kid 6' or taller, 260+, who is strong and, very good with his hands, AND CAN MOVE FLUIDLY. A dancing bear ballerina if you would.

It is very disappointing to hear we passed on Vitable due to his height. Div1 coaches should be better than that. But sometimes numbers on paper can be intoxicating.

Noticed that you did not provide detail on the Flood pedigree. I Googled "Flood pedigree" and Google Images provided:

Doesn't really matter who was at fault or why we didn't get him but we didn't. Let us also not forget that we were not a BIG team then, he had the oportunity to play P5 football. His decision may not have had anything to do with the coach at RU at the time. Anyway, let's try and get him here even if it is for only one year
